Guiles Nears Records
Ben Guiles is having one of the best seasons in LVC history by a running back at 1,033 yards and 13 touchdowns. He is 73 yards away from breaking
Charlie Parker '10's single-season record of 1,105 yards, set in 2008, and three touchdowns away from Parker's TD mark. Last week, Guiles became just the sixth player in program history to cross 1,000 rushing yards in a season.
Bleiler Earns MAC Honors, Moves Up Sacks List
Senior DE
Zach Bleiler, the reigning MAC Defensive Player of the Week, had two sacks against Widener, including a fumble returned for a touchdown, and is climbing up the LVC career sacks list. He is now in third place all-time with 24.5 career sacks. The record is 29, held by Karl Conrad '89.
Turnover Troubles
A large part of LVC's 2009 success was that they took care of the ball; the Dutchmen were +10 on turnovers last season. In 2010, however, it's been a different story entirely as LVC has developed a case of fumblitis. Lebanon Valley is -9 through eight games (although they were +3 last week), which ranks second-worst in the MAC. That includes -8 on fumbles alone - they've given away 11 bobbles, and recovered three.
Zach Bleiler's two fumble recoveries last week were the first by the Dutchmen since Week 2 against Grove City.
Scouting Lycoming
Lycoming has the top receiver and top rusher in the Middle Atlantic Conference, and their offense is third overall at 26.1 points per game. Seniors Josh Kleinfelter and Ryan Wagaman have rewritten the Warriors' record book throughout the 2010 season, with Kleinfelter reaching school records in rushing and all-purpose yardage during the season. The dangerous running back also posted a school-record of five straight 100-yard rushing games and leads the MAC in rushing with an average of 134.8 yards per game. Wagaman is one of four receivers in Lycoming history to reach 2,000 career yards and one of three to reach 150 receptions. He leads the MAC with an average of 84.5 yards per game.
Even after allowing 30 points in each of the past two weeks, the Warriors still sit second in the MAC in scoring defense at 19.5 points per game and third in total defense at 314.1 yards per game. The Warriors have been one of the most aggressive units in the conference this year, forcing 10 fumbles and picking off 10 passes to sit second in the league in turnover margin at +12. The team's frontline has been outstanding, allowing just 106.4 yards on the ground per game. Safety Chuck Bellitto leads the team in tackles with 56. Junior safety Ray Bierbach is tied for the league lead with five interceptions and he tops the conference with 13 passes defended.
Last Year vs. Lycoming
LVC won eight games for the first time since 1902 with a 31-21 win over Lycoming at Arnold Field. On Senior Day, it was only appropriate that LVC's senior class make all the big plays, and they did just that as the Dutchmen overcame a slow start to dominate the Warriors (3-6, 2-4 MAC) in the second half.
Charlie Parker scored three touchdowns and racked up his 16th career 100-yard rushing game with 126 yards on 33 carries, and
Joe Brennan and
Sean Donovan each caught five passes, including Brennan's 34-yard touchdown haul. Defensively, seniors
Matt Lillis,
Bruno Iozzo, and
Will Keylor all came up with interceptions in key situations, and Ju'rey Fowlkes added a fourth pick on Colin Dwyer.
Series History
Saturday's game is the 26th meeting all-time ... Lycoming leads the series 22-3, winning the first 21 games ... LVC has won three of the last four, however ... The first meeting was on Nov. 19, 1955, a 25-7 Lycoming win ... The two teams played in 1956, then did not play again until 1985 ... LVC won last year's tilt, 31-21, at Arnold Field ... The Dutchmen are 1-11 in Williamsport, winning 15-9 in 2006 ... Coach
Jim Monos is 3-13 against Lyco ... LVC is 9-6 on Nov. 6.
