Novak Ties Goals Record As LVC Cruises Over Gettysburg

Field Hockey
#4 Lebanon Valley 7, Gettysburg 1
Game resumed from halted contest on Sept. 22

Box Score

GETTYSBURG, Pa. - Two days after becoming LVC's all-time leader in points, Jocelyn Novak tied the LVC record for goals with a hat trick as #4 Lebanon Valley went back to Gettysburg to finish their weather-halted game and win, 7-1, Friday afternoon.

The game was originally halted a few minutes into the second half back on Sept. 22 by lightning and darkness, with LVC holding a 2-0 lead; not enough of the game had been played for it to be considered official. The Dutchmen (11-0) made the return trip Friday and scored five more times in the remaining 27 minutes.

Novak, who become LVC's all-time points leader against F&M on Wednesday, notched her 14th career hat trick - scoring all of them in the second half - to get to 88 career goals, tying Barb Hall Streeter '72's record. It is believed that Streeter's record, set in 1971, is the oldest scoring record in NCAA Division III field hockey; 39 years later, her mark still ranks 14th all-time in NCAA history.

Before the stoppage, LVC had taken a 2-0 lead on first-half goals by Shelly Lobach and Allison Bicher, but Gettysburg was giving LVC all it could handle, with the Dutchmen holding a 12-11 shots edge and riding seven first-half saves by Christine Poletti.

The Dutchmen stepped up their pressure on Friday, as Caitlin Vasey came out and scored less than two minutes into the restart, and Novak went top-shelf off Vasey's feed at 53:10.

Gettysburg got one back when Sarah Cole scored on a one-timer at 57:42, but Novak notched her 20th of the year thanks to Bicher's feed two minutes later. Bicher added her second goal on a chip shot at 63:46 before Novak swatted her own rebound out of the air 58 seconds from time for her third.

Poletti didn't have to make a save in the second half and finished with seven; Megan Feeg stopped 11 in the loss. LVC ended up with a 27-15 shots advantage, while Gettysburg led 8-3 on corners.

LVC will turn around and head to Shenandoah on Saturday.
