ANNVILLE, Pa.
- The 1968 men's lacrosse team, which captured the MAC Championship just three years after the inception of the program, will be the 2009 LVC Athletic Hall of Fame Team of Honor. The team will be honored at the Hall of Fame banquet on Oct. 24 during Oktoberfest Weekend.

The 1968 team captured the program's only MAC and USILA Central Atlantic Conference championships that year, going 8-1 overall and winning the title with a dramatic 9-8 overtime win against Delaware. With no seniors on the team, LVC upset powerhouse programs like Villanova and Delaware, and also beat Michigan State in a pre-season scrimmage.

Every year, Lebanon Valley College honors a team at its Athletic Hall of Fame induction banquet to recognize a championship or other outstanding achievement. The 1968 squad is the first lacrosse team to be recognized by the Hall.

Behind the coaching of Bill and Bob McHenry, LVC was led by the scoring of Jim Evans, who netted 22 goals and an assist, and Tom Cestare, LVC's points leader with 13 goals and as many assists. A fantastic defense, led by goalie Bill Zimmerman's 75 saves, also helped the Dutchmen outscore opponents nearly 3-to-1, with an average of 11.3 goals per game to opponents' 4.5.

After starting out 7-1 and looking at a chance for the title, the Dutchmen captured the championship on the final day of the season, scoring two overtime goals by Evans and Gary Gunther and riding 23 saves by Zimmerman to beat Delaware for the pennant.

After the season, defenseman Steve Brandsberg was named Honorable Mention All-America by the USILA, and Gunther and Dennis Tulli were first-team all-MAC honorees. Dennis Misal, the team MVP along with Cestare, also earned Penn-Del League honors.
