Game 2 Box

SELINSGROVE, Pa. - Lebanon Valley split a non-conference doubleheader with Susquehanna Thursday, dropping the opener 2-1 before coming back for a 5-2 win in the nightcap.

The Dutchmen (19-7, 6-0 CC) broke a 2-2 tie in the nightcap with a three-run seventh inning to salvage the split with the Crusaders (9-9, 1-1 Landmark).

Val Malizzia (9-1) was dealt her first loss of the season despite giving up just one earned run in the opener. Malizzia had won 11 straight decisions dating back to the end of last season.

Laura Snyder (6-3) picked up the win in game two, striking out eight.

With two hits and as many runs batted in, Kristen Uhas moved closer to a pair of career milestones; she now has 95 career hits, and her 64 career RBI is four short of the LVC career record of 68.

GAME ONE

LVC couldn't find the runs in the opener, scoring just once despite leaving five runners in scoring position, including a runner on third in the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings.

Susquehanna took the lead in the third when Lisa Finizio reached on an infield single and advanced on an error. That allowed Brennan Balfour to single her home, unearned, on the next at-bat.

Meghan Donoghue knocked in LVC's only run, doubling to center to plate Linley Eberhart and tie the game in the fifth. LVC had a chance for more as they loaded the bases, but Caitlin Keller flied out to end the inning.

SU then scored the winning run in the bottom of the frame when Laurie Blaszka drove scored Finizio on a single.

LVC had chances to tie the game, but left Chelsea Kehr on third in the sixth and Katie DeJulio on second in their final at-bat.

Malizzia struck out four while allowing seven hits; Bryn Whitmire and Kim Rubino combined to allow six hits with six strikeouts, with Rubino getting the win in 2.2 innings of work.

GAME TWO

Susquehanna took a quick 1-0 lead when Blaszka homered to left in the first, but LVC answered with two runs in the third to take the lead as Uhas singled home Kehr and Donoghue.

Susquehanna then tied the game on Kelli Holota's RBI double in the sixth, setting up a dramatic finish for the Dutchmen. Tied at 2-2 in the seventh, Kehr led off with a single, and two batters later Donoghue added her own base hit before DeJulio drove in the eventual winning run on a single. Donoghue then scored on a wild pitch, and Keller doubled to right to score DeJulio and pad the 5-2 lead.

Snyder then shut down the Crusaders in the bottom of the inning, retiring the side to secure the win.

Cara Swerdlow took the loss, striking out eight and allowing 10 hits.

LVC will be back in action next Thursday at Kean University.
