Malizzia, Snyder Toss Back-To-Back No-Hitters

Game 1 Box Score
Game 2 Box Score

ANNVILLE, Pa.
- Val Malizzia and Laura Snyder threw back-to-back no-hitters to lead Lebanon Valley to a pair of shutout victories over Arcadia in front of a jam-packed LVC Softball Park on Saturday.

The Dutchmen (22-10, 8-2 CC) clinched a berth in the Commonwealth Conference playoffs with the 2-0 and 1-0 wins, and will try to defend their 2008 conference crown on May 1 and 2 at Messiah.

Malizzia (11-2) opened the twinbill with a dazzling 10-strikeout performance spoiled only by three walks and an error in the sixth; Snyder (7-4) was even better, striking out a career-high 14 (including 11 through the fourth) with two walks and an error in the seventh.

Junior Kristen Uhas collected her 100th career hit with a double in the second game, becoming just the sixth Dutchman to reach the mark and only the second to do so as a junior.

Allie Davies drove in both game-winning runs with a single in the first inning of game one and another in the sixth of the second game.

GAME ONE

LVC rolled out to a quick 2-0 lead in the first after Kerri Datres was hit by a pitch and Uhas walked. Davies then singled up the middle and advanced to third when the centerfielder misplayed the ball, allowing both runs to score.

The Dutchmen threatened again in the fourth with two runners on, but Arcadia's defense worked out of the jam; in the fifth, Datres nearly made it 3-0, but was thrown out on the relay at home after Davies' single.

Thankfully, two runs was all LVC needed as Malizzia dominated, allowing just five baserunners all game as she struck out 10 to secure her second career no-hitter.

GAME TWO

The nightcap turned into a fantastic pitchers' duel between Snyder and Kellie Reese (5-2) as the 0-0 game lasted into the sixth. Snyder mowed down the Knights early on, with the first 10 outs of the game coming via strikeout.

Meanwhile, Reese held off LVC, allowing Caitlin Keller to reach in the second and Uhas' double in the fourth before the run came across in the sixth.

Datres led off the sixth with a single, and Katie DeJulio moved her over with her third sacrifice bunt of the day. After Uhas flied out, Davies singled up the middle, allowing Datres to come home, but Davies was thrown at out second trying to stretch the hit.

It was then up to Snyder to secure the no-hitter, and after a fly-out and a strikeout, Diana Rufo seemed to ground out to short, but Datres' throw pulled Uhas off first for an error. Snyder induced a fly-out to center, however, to end the game for her first career no-no.

NEXT UP: LVC will host Scranton on Tuesday.
