CLERMONT, Fla. - Lebanon Valley saw its perfect start come to an end Thursday, falling 11-3 to Ohio Northern in the morning before losing 11-1 in five innings to #11 Moravian in the afternoon.
The Dutchmen (4-2) broke up a no-hit bid by Moravian's Maria DeBonis with Katie DeJulio's solo home run in the fifth inning.
GAME ONE
LVC got on the board quickly against Ohio Northern with Allie Davies' RBI single to score Chelsea Artz in the bottom of the first inning.
The Polar Bears answered back with a run in the top of the second when Cassie Gaye singled home Jackie Mangola, and after loading the bases, Palmerio worked out of the jam by inducing a ground out by Liz Decima.
Ohio Northern broke the game open in the third by manufacturing three runs, spelling the end of the day for Kristen Palmerio. With Val Malizzia in the circle, the Bears added another run in the fourth.
LVC pulled a run back in the sixth on Linley Eberhart's RBI double to score Janey Kozlowski, but Northern pounded out five runs in the seventh, including three with two outs, to put the game out of reach.
Laura Snyder knocked in Chelsea Kehr in the last of the seventh for LVC's final consolation run.
Palmerio took the loss, allowing nine hits and four runs in 2.2 innings. Malizzia allowed seven runs in relief. Ohio Northern used three pitchers, with Stephanie Inkrott earning the win with five innings of work, allowing eight hits and two runs.
GAME TWO
LVC never got started against #11 Moravian as DeBonis threw five strong innings in the circle and the Greyhounds racked up 15 hits off starter Laura Snyder and Malizzia in relief.
At the plate, DeBonis was a double away from the cycle, going 4-for-4 with four RBI, a triple, and a home run. Olivia Evanko drove in a run and scored two.
The Greyhounds scored in every inning, taking a 6-0 lead after two never letting up. DeBonis' no-hitter was spoiled with one out in the fifth as DeJulio hit her first home run of the season to left center.
LVC will be back in action Friday, taking on Division II opponents Grand Valley State and St. Joseph's (Ind.) on the final day of play at the National Training Center.
