Game 2 Box

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Lebanon Valley scored two runs in the eighth inning of a comeback extra-innings win to win game one, 3-1, before falling to Moravian in the second game, 4-1, in non-conference softball action Saturday.

LVC (11-5) rallied in the opener with Kerri Datres' two-out RBI double to tie the game, then scored two runs on singles by Katie DeJulio and Kristen Uhas in the eighth to win.

In the nightcap, Uhas hit a solo home run to break up Jenna Carmon's perfect game with two outs in the the seventh, tying her for the LVC career home run record with six.

The opening-game win also gave coach Stacey Hollinger her 199th career victory; she will have a chance to reach 200 at home Sunday against DeSales.

Val Malizzia threw a complete-game four-hitter in game one to improve to 6-0; Kristen Palmerio (2-3) went six innings and allowed four runs to take the loss in the second game.

GAME ONE

LVC threatened right out of the gate, putting runners on first and second before Maria DeBonis induced Allie Davies to fly out to end the inning. Moravian put a run on the board quickly in the bottom of the first, putting Stephanie Falzarano on third to set up DeBonis' sacrifice fly for a 1-0 lead.

DeBonis then shut down the Dutchmen from there, pitching five perfect innings to hold the lead into the seventh. Meanwhile, Malizzia was equally dominating, allowing just two baserunners in that span.

Trailing 1-0 heading into the seventh, Uhas struck out to lead off, and Chelsea Kehr reached when catcher Deanna Mangieri dropped a pop-up. Laura Snyder pinch-hit for Davies and singled to move Kehr to second, and after Katie Freeman popped out, Datres roped a double to left center to plate Kehr and tie the game.

Mangieri singled in the seventh to put the go-ahead run on base, but Malizzia induced a ground-out and two pop-ups to end the inning.

In the eighth, Janey Kozlowski was placed on second and advanced on Chelsea Artz's sac bunt. Meghan Donoghue drew a walk, then moved to second on a wild pitch before DeJulio knocked in a run with a single to center. Uhas tacked on another run with a single through the right side to score Donoghue.

Malizzia then took care of business in the bottom of the inning, retiring the side in order to secure the win, LVC's first over the Greyhounds since the 2006 Commonwealth Conference playoffs.

GAME TWO

LVC could only play the role of spoiler in the second game as Carmon and her defense worked the perfect-game bid into the seventh.

Moravian got all of its runs in the third after Palmerio walked in a run, Amanda Paulus hit a two-run double, and Mangieri hit a sacrifice fly.

With Carmon needing just one more out to secure the perfect game, Uhas stepped up with a solo shot to right field to give LVC a consolation run. The homer, her third of the season, ties her with Jess Salisbury, Melissa Ulrich, and Jenn Roberts for the career lead with six.

LVC will be back home Sunday to take on DeSales at noon.
