MANHEIM, Pa. - Lebanon Valley College running back
Charlie Parker has been chosen as the Manheim Touchdown Club's Small School Player of the Year, it was announced Tuesday.
The Small School Player of the Year award is given by the MTC to an outstanding collegiate player in Division II or III who is from an L-L League high school. Parker is the second Dutchman in recent years to earn the prestigious award; former teammate Adam Brossman '08 also won the honor in 2006 and 2007.
Parker, a Landisville native and alumnus of Hempfield High School, will receive his award at the MTC's annual banquet May 12 at the Lancaster Host Resort.
University of Pittsburgh coach Dave Wannstedt will be the guest speaker. Parker will join Abilene Christian University's Sam Collins, who will receive the Gene Upshaw Lineman of the Year Award, as well as a to-be-announced winner of the Division I Player of the Year award. The Lebanon-Lancaster League High School Player of the Year will also be announced at the banquet.
Parker, who will be a senior in 2009, continued his assault on the LVC record books in 2008, rushing for 936 yards and seven touchdowns in eight games of an injury-shortened junior season. A repeat First-Team All-MAC selection, Parker set a single-game school record on Oct. 4 when he exploded for 267 yards rushing on 44 carries in a 28-21 win at Wilkes. Through his three-year career, Parker has 2,741 yards rushing (second all-time at LVC), 23 rushing touchdowns (tied for first), and 390 yards of receiving with two touchdowns. He currently sits 365 yards behind the program rushing record.
