Parker Sets Rushing Record As LVC Rolls FDU-Florham, 40-14

Box Score

MADISON, N.J.
- Charlie Parker became LVC's all-time leading rusher as Lebanon Valley improved to 5-1 for the first time since 1979 with a 40-14 drubbing of FDU-Florham Saturday.

The Dutchmen (5-1, 2-1 MAC) rolled out 428 yards of total offense and held the Devils (1-5, 0-3 MAC) to just 40 yards on the ground as they jumped out to a 33-7 halftime lead.

Parker became Lebanon Valley's all-time rushing yardage and carries leader on the same play, fighting for 12 yards up the middle on the first play from scrimmage to top Rick Coleman '78 in both categories. Parker ended with 81 yards to give him 3,178 for his career, and he now has 693 carries; both records had stood for 32 years.

Complementing Parker's record-setting performance, running back Ben Guiles went over 100 yards for the second straight game with 119 yards and two touchdowns. The two combined for 200 of LVC's 291 rushing yards.

The LVC defense limited Devils quarterback Bill Winters, who was the MAC's sixth-leading rusher, to just one yard rushing, but the senior went 23-of-42 for 261 yards and two touchdowns. Caleb Fick completed 10 of 21 passes for 142 yards and two touchdowns, while Colt Zarilla was 2-for-4 with an intterception.

Will Keylor had a huge game, making a team-high nine tackles, including four for a loss. Alex Gilchrist followed up his big game at Wilkes with six tackles, 2.5 for a loss, and a sack. Dane Eichelberger recovered a fumble and grabbed an interception.

A 52-yard Sean Donovan return on the game's opening kick-off set up LVC's first score, as Fick found Brennan in the back corner of the end zone out of a quick drop for a four-yard strike.

The Dutchmen added another touchdown later in the first quarter. After forcing a quick out on the Devils' first possession, the Dutchmen worked a 13-play drive capped by Fick's seven-yard toss to Donovan in the back corner.

LVC started the second quarter with great field position, backing FDU up into their own end zone and after Fick's punt to the three, then benefiting from Nic Shirey's 13-yard punt return to start on the Devils' 24. Four plays later, Guiles danced into the end zone with a 12-yard run up the middle.

FDU got on the board midway through the second quarter, facing a fourth-down conversion and going for the end zone as Winters hit a wide-open Andrew Scamparino for a 22-yard strike.

LVC answered right back, capping off an eight-play, 70-yard drive with Parker barrelling into the end zone from three yards out with the help of an offensive line push.

After forcing the Devils to turn it over on downs late in the half, the Dutchmen were backed up after a sack, but Fick went deep for Joe Brennan and connected on a 55-yard pass to give them a scoring chance. After a Fick scramble out and an incompletion, Guiles slipped up the middle for a six-yard touchdown.

FDU had a great scoring chance early in the second half, but Bayshawn Wells was hit by Mark Bowne as he crossed the goal line and coughed up the ball, allowing Eichelberger to fall on it and take over at the one. Three plays later, however, Guiles fumbled it right back, with Steve Hoverson forcing the drop. The LVC defense held, though, and forced a turnover on downs inside the red zone.

LVC nearly shut the door for good to start the fourth, but Zarilla's pass was dropped by Donovan in the end zone, and Zarilla was intercepted by Jason Glezman on the next play.

Winters added a late touchdown pass to Lou Pietrangelo, and Blair Ransom found the end zone for LVC's final score midway through the fourth quarter.

LVC will return to Arnold Field for Oktoberfest Weekend Oct. 24 against King's.
