Eryn Schultz tied a program record with six three-pointers as she led Lebanon Valley College past Arcadia University, 67-42, in both teams' Commonwealth Conference opener Wednesday night.
The Dutchmen (8-3, 1-0 CC) spoiled the Knights' (1-10, 0-1 CC) Commonwealth debut. It also marked the first game for Arcadia first-year head coach Crystal Gibson '05 against her alma mater; Gibson was a stand-out point guard for the Dutchmen from 2001 to 2005.
Schultz was an incredible 6-of-7 from three-point range en route to a career-high 20 points, tying the three-pointer record set by
Lora Zimmerman in 2000 and
Kathy Ziga and 1994. The sophomore also broke the record for three-point percentage in a game (.857), also set by Zimmerman.
Lori Lidlow dished out a career-high eight assists to go with 12 points;
Megan Bish pitched in 10 points off the bench. Kim Milligan scored 21 for Arcadia.
It was all Dutchmen from the opening tip as Schultz single-handedly scored the game's first 11 points, including a pair of three-pointers to start the game. LVC ended up with an 18-0 run to start the game until Chanel Murphy's jumper 9:11 into the game got the Knights on the board.
Arcadia pulled within 11 points, but the hot-shooting Dutchmen extended their lead to 19 just before the half on
Caitlin Murphy's layup. The second half was more of the same, including a 14-0 run midway through the half that saw the lead bulge to as much as 36 points.
Lebanon Valley shot 49 percent for the game, including 53.3 percent (8-for-15) for three. Arcadia shot just 31.5 percent, and didn't visit the foul line until Milligan made a pair of shots with 3:19 left in the game.
LVC will head to rival Albright College Saturday at 2 p.m.
