Box Score

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa
. - It had been 29 years since Lebanon Valley College was 2-0. The wait is over.

The LVC football team went to 2-0 for the first time since 1979 as it rolled over Ursinus College (0-1), 31-19, Saturday. Lebanon Valley running back Charlie Parker had 80 yards to reach the 2,000 career yard mark, becoming the fourth Dutchmen ever to achieve the milestone.

The Dutchmen were led by Joe Brennan's 104 yards receiving and two touchdowns, and quarterback Caleb Fick went 11-of-19 for 206 yards and three TD's.

The LVC defense held the Bears (1-1) to 258 yards of total offense, including 45 yards on the ground. Ursinus fumbled the ball eight times, with LVC picking up four of them.

Lebanon Valley started 3-0 in 1979 under Head Coach Lou Sorrentino, en route to a 5-4 overall season. Since then, LVC had won its season opener five times while failing to following it up with a victory.

Parker's day put him at 2,013 career yards rushing, putting him behind only Rick Coleman (3,106 yards), Ken Wilson (2,305 yards), and Pete Henning (2,203 yards) on the all-time list.

The LVC linebacking corps, back together after two starters were out last week, had a dominating game, turning in 25 tackles among them including Brian Cottone's seven and six apiece from Jeff Ochoa, Bruno Iozzo, and Will Keylor. Keylor and Iozzo also forced fumbles.

Matt Donley also caught a touchdown, one of four catches overall, and Parker added a rushing score as LVC scored 31 unanswered points after the Bears' Nick Dye opened the scoring with a first-quarter touchdown.

After Dye's score, LVC responded with Donley's five-yard grab to tie it at 7-7, then took the lead with Brennan's first strike, a 26-yarder, midway through the second quarter.

The Dutchmen broke the game open in the third quarter, starting with a 29-yard Dan DiBona field goal that put them up 17-7. From there, Parker rumbled in for a two-yard score and Brennan created a 45-yard touchdown pass from Fick late in the quarter to make it 31-7.

With the result not in doubt, Ursinus scored twice late, first on Shea Wisler's 19-yard completion from Dye, and again with 28 seconds left on Jesse Ordonio's 11-yard grab.

LVC will host Moravian College Sept. 20 at 1 p.m.
