#13 Delaware Valley 26, Lebanon Valley 14
Lebanon Valley put a scare into #13 Delaware Valley, but the Aggies scored two unanswered touchdowns in the fourth quarter to pull away and win, 26-14, last weekend. The Dutchmen carried a 14-13 lead into the fourth before the Aggies' Matt Cook took control of the game with two of his four rushing touchdowns. Cook ended up with 233 yards overall. With his two touchdowns,
Charlie Parker tied the LVC all-time rushing touchdown record of 23 held by
Ken Wilson '90. The junior once again cleared 100 yards, running for 156 yards and two touchdowns. The Aggie offense was overwhelming in the fourth quarter, and DVC totaled 418 yards of total offense, including 277 yards on the ground. Cook and the Aggie offensive line were simply dominant, averaging 6.6 yards a carry as the back tied a program record with his four touchdowns.
Parker Rewrites the Record Books
With an average of 143 rushing yards per game, junior
Charlie Parker is having a record-breaking 2008. In a few short weeks, he has moved from fifth to second on the all-time rushing list with 2,520 yards, sitting 586 yards from
Rick Coleman '78's 3,106 career yards. Parker has tied the all-time rushing touchdown record of 23, and will have a chance to break it this afternoon. Parker also broke the single-game rushing record two weeks ago with his 267-yard performance at Wilkes.
Hall of Fame Inductees
Before the game, the induction class of 2008 to the LVC Athletic Hall of Fame will be introduced. The inductees are: Football and wrestling standout
Rich Basta '69; field hockey all-American
Joda Glossner Alian '95; football and baseball player
Bob Kirkhoff '77; former coach and athletic director
Kathy Tierney; and record-breaking running back
Ken Wilson '90. In addition, the 1988 field hockey team will be honored for winning the program's first-ever MAC title.
Scouting Widener
Widener is 3-2 heading into today's game and is coming off a 17-3 win against King's last weekend. The Pride offense has struggled at times this season, averaging 268 yards of total offense per game, including 112 yards passing. The quarterback spot has been split between Bob Brice (23-of-44, 291 yards) and Drew Lagomarsino (27-of-54, 273 yards), and Ian Decker leads the rushing attack with 53.8 yards per game. Defense is another story - Widener sports the MAC's best turnover ratio at +8, and have the MAC's second-best scoring defense at 19.0 points per game.
Last Year
Lebanon Valley mounted a late comeback, but couldn't get the game-tying score late in the fourth quarter as it fell, 20-13, to Widener last season. LVC held Widener to 272 yards of total offense, but the Pride scored an early touchdown off an interception that ended up being the difference-maker.
Caleb Fick threw for 200 yards on 11-of-31 passing, but also threw four interceptions.
Adam Brossman '08 caught just two balls but racked up 82 yards.
The Hands Team
LVC is +6 on turnovers this season, recovering 10 fumbles overall, including five at Wilkes, while coughing the ball up just four times. Quarterback
Caleb Fick has helped as well, tossing just two interceptions this season.
Red Zone Struggles
While LVC has the MAC's second-rated offense in terms of yardage (365 ypg), the Dutchmen rank fifth in scoring offense at 21.6 points per game. Although the big pass play has consistantly been there (
Joe Brennan and
Matt Donley have combined for five touchdown catches of over 25 yards this season), LVC has struggled in the red zone, ranking dead last in the MAC converting 10 of 19 tries. Both of
Caleb Fick's interceptions this year have come inside the 20, and LVC is 1-of-4 on field goal tries.
