ANNVILLE, Pa. - Sophomore Charlie Parker broke the program single-season rushing record and tied a school single-game record with four touchdowns as Lebanon Valley College beat Lycoming College, 28-14, on Senior Day at Arnold Field.
The Dutchmen finish the season 4-6 and 3-4 in MAC play, while the Warriors end at 3-7 and 3-4 in the MAC. LVC beat Lycoming for the second straight year after suffering 21 consecutive losses to the Warriors.
Lebanon Valley has gone 10-10 over the past two seasons after a run that saw it go 13-47 between 2000 and 2005.
LVC did not commit a turnover but forced three interceptions (including two by Russ DeStefano) and two fumbles by Lycoming.
It was records galore for Parker, as he broke or tied three school records as he ran for 155 yards and all four of LVC's touchdowns. With his final run of the day, Parker finished the season with 1,105 yards, breaking the record of 1,103 set by Ken Wilson in 1989.
Parker also set a season record for attempts with 241, and tied the single-game record of four touchdowns held by Rick Coleman (set in 1975) and Vern Magnuson (set in 1960). Early in the game, Parker became the fifth Dutchman to run for 1,000 yards in a season.
The Dutchmen stuck primarily to the ground game, but freshman Caleb Fick proved capable under center, completing 10 of 16 for 106 yards with no interceptions.
Parker opened the scoring with a 14-yard run early in the first quarter, then capitalized on DeStefano's first pick with a three-yard run to give LVC a 14-0 lead early in the second quarter.
Lycoming responded on the next drive with Tim Hook's 41-yard touchdown bomb to Bill Margetich.
But LVC came right back on the next possession as Parker broke loose for a 40-yard haul to put the Dutchmen up 21-7 at the half.
A turnover again led to a Dutchman score midway early in the third quarter. With Lycoming driving at midfield, Hook completed a pass to Ryan Dixon, but Brian Cottone forced a fumble that was recovered by Terry Kaufman at the Lycoming 49 yard-line.
Six plays later, Parker broke loose again for a 16-yard scamper and stamped his name in the record books with his fourth touchdown of the day.
Margetich added a second touchdown on a 21-yard pass from Colin Dwyer in the fourth, and the Dutchmen worked a stop on Lycoming's final drive to hold the score at 28-14.
The Dutchmen got a final drive with 1:02 remaining, and it was just enough to give Parker a five-yard carry and the single-season rushing record.
