WILKES-BARRE, Pa. - Seven different players recorded points as Lebanon Valley College rolled to a 4-1 win over King's College in men's soccer action Friday.
The Flying Dutchmen (1-0) won their season opener in emphatic fashion, scoring the first four goals of the match. The Monarchs (0-1) got a late consolation goal.
Senior Ben Wagner opened the scoring just two and a half minutes into the season, converting classmate Zach Barkus' feed. Junior Richard Chesney followed with his unassisted strike midway through the first half, and senior Adam Schies assisted junior Adam Myers 1:41 from the half as the Dutchmen took a 3-0 lead into the break.
The scoring didn't stop in the second half. Freshman King Saah made the most of his collegiate debut, capping LVC's outburst on the hour thanks to Joe Kopchick's pass.
Cameron Audette added a late unassisted goal for King's.
The Dutchmen dominated the course of the game, outshooting their opponents 20-4. LVC put 20 of their 15 shots on goal, forcing the Monarchs' Kaleb Smith into 11 saves.
Juniors Tim Mehl and Andrew Raudensky split time in goal for LVC, with Mehl playing the first 65 minutes and not conceding a goal.
The win was LVC's first in a season opener since a 2-0 victory against King's in 2004.
