Matt Yingst has been the Head Coach of the Lebanon Valley College women's ice hockey team since the 2017-18 season.
During Yingst’s tenure as the Head Coach of the Dutchmen, the program has registered a 74-124-10 overall record. The two-time Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Coach of the Year (2020-21 and 2024-25) has guided Lebanon Valley to the postseason four times, including two trips to the MAC Championship semifinal and two appearances in the United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) Quarterfinals. Under his tutelage, the team has appeared in each MAC Tournament since MAC women’s ice hockey became an NCAA automatic qualifier sport in 2024-25. Yingst led LVC to its most wins in program history during the 2025-26 season, as the squad posted a 19-7-0 overall record.
Since Yingst took over the program in its second season, he has coached one CCM Hockey/American Hockey Coaches Association (AHCA) All-American (Anna Dale ’27) and one finalist for the Laura Hurd Award (Dale). He has also helped players collect three MAC Defensive Player of the Year awards (Jill Moffatt ’20, Shelby Guinard ’23, and Mia Frisoni ’27), one MAC Offensive Player of the Year honor (Dale), two UCHC Goaltender of the Year accolades (Moffatt twice), and one UCHC Defensive Player of the Year award (Moffatt). Additionally, one student-athlete was chosen as the UCHC Rookie of the Year (Katrina Strauts), and one player was listed on the All-UCHC Rookie Team (Strauts). Furthermore, Yingst has mentored 24 All-Conference players, including 22 All-MAC honorees and two All-UCHC selections.
Yingst coached Moffatt to a record-setting career, in which she finished with 4,444 saves, the most all-time in NCAA women's ice hockey history. In the 2017-18 season, he guided Moffatt to break the Division III single-season saves record with 1,267. Yingst also helped Dale deliver a standout 2024-25 campaign, in which she ranked first in the nation with 1.04 goals per game and five short-handed goals.
Yingst has supported the academic achievement of student-athletes at LVC, as several players have garnered recognition for their success in the classroom. During his tenure, 14 student-athletes have been named AHCA/Krampade All-American Scholars and six have been chosen to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Team. Under Yingst’s leadership, two players have been honored as MAC Senior Scholar-Athletes (Moffatt and Olivia Cindrich ’22, D’24), 15 have been selected to the Academic All-MAC Team, and 113 have been listed on the MAC Academic Honor Roll. Additionally, 19 student-athletes have been recognized on the Eastern Athletic Communications Association (EAST-COMM) Academic Honor Roll, and 61 earned a spot on the UCHC All-Academic Team.
Yingst, a former Assistant Coach for LVC's men's ice hockey team, served as the Director of Hockey Operations for the Hershey Jr. Bears before becoming the Head Coach of Lebanon Valley’s women’s ice hockey program. Prior to taking over with the youth organization, Yingst served on the Flying Dutchmen staff from 1999 to 2007 under former Head Coach Al MacCormack and was a member of the program's 2001 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Northeast Championship squad.
After finishing up his playing days at the University of Connecticut, Yingst played professionally for a number of clubs, including the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League (AHL), and the ECHL’s Johnstown Chiefs and Columbus Chili. His familiarity with hockey in the region runs deep, as his father, Doug Yingst, served as the President and General Manager of the Bears from 1998 until he retired from the position in 2016.
