Jeff Robbins became the Head Coach of LVC’s men’s tennis team in June 2023, following nine years as an Assistant Coach with the men’s program. He has also been a member of the women’s tennis coaching staff since the 2018-19 campaign, and he served as the team’s Interim Head Coach in the spring of 2023.
Robbins is a three-time Coach of the Year recipient, as he earned the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Commonwealth award as Interim Head Coach of the women’s program in 2023 and the MAC Freedom award at the helm of the men’s team in 2024 and 2026. As a collegiate Head Coach, he holds a 50-34 overall record, including a 36-31 mark with the men’s squad. Robbins led the women’s team to a 14-3 record in the spring of 2023. The men’s and women’s teams have advanced to the conference playoffs every year he has been coaching. The men have advanced to the championship match in 2017, 2018, 2024, 2025, and 2026, and won conference championships to advance to the NCAA Tournament in 2022 and 2023. The women reached the conference championship match in 2021, before winning conference titles to advance to the NCAA Tournament in 2022 and 2023. As the Interim Head Coach of the women’s team, he guided the Flying Dutchmen to a 5-2 victory over Hartwick College in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, which marked the program’s first-ever win in the national tournament.
Robbins has helped coach and mentor several standout players, as 15 have received All-Conference honors in his career as a Head Coach. During his tenure as the Head Coach of Dutchmen Men’s Tennis, 10 players have been selected to the All-MAC Freedom Team. Five student-athletes were also named to the All-MAC Commonwealth Team when Robbins served as LVC’s Interim Head Women’s Tennis Coach.
As both a professor and a coach, he believes strongly in the ideals of the scholar-athlete, the individual and team pursuits of excellence, and the ways that playing a sport on the Division III level can and should be amongst the most enjoyable and rewarding parts of one's college experience. As a Head Coach, Robbins has guided student-athletes from both the men’s and women’s teams to a total of eight College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District accolades. LVC student-athletes have also been listed on the MAC Academic Honor Roll 36 times, and six players have been chosen to the Academic All-MAC Team. Additionally, 10 student-athletes were recognized on the Eastern Athletic Communications Association (EAST-COMM) Academic Honor Roll.
In addition to his work with the LVC men’s and women’s tennis teams, Robbins is also the Co-Director of the Lebanon Valley Community Tennis Association, a non-profit organization based in the city of Lebanon that offers a multitude of free tennis instructional and recreational play opportunities. He has coached and assisted in junior team tennis in United States Tennis Association (USTA) league play, and he has also directed camps, clinics, and sectional USTA tournaments for competitive juniors in the region.
Robbins had a successful junior tennis career beginning in his home state of Louisiana. He was his high school's No. 1 singles player on a team that won the Louisiana High School Athletic Association (LHSAA) Division III state championship. He earned a top-ten USTA singles ranking and a top-five doubles ranking as a junior player. Additionally, Robbins won consecutive LHSAA regional singles championships and finished runner-up in the LHSAA state singles championship match.
He is the author of the recent book, “Game Changers: The Evolution of the Modern Game of Tennis.” The book tells the stories of the great shots and shot-makers in the Open Era of the professional game of tennis and makes an argument for how and why the game has changed.
Robbins competes in USTA league tennis both in singles and doubles and qualified for and competed in the USTA 40+ National Tennis Rating Program (NTRP) National Singles Championship in San Diego, California, in 2022 and Orlando, Florida, in 2023.
Robbins earned his B.A. from Baylor University, his M.Div. from Texas Christian University, and his M.Phil. and Ph.D. from Syracuse University.
