Dave Remsburg enters his 14th year as Lebanon Valley head men’s tennis coach in 2022-23.
The 2012 and 2022 MAC Commonwealth Coach of the Year, Remsburg was named head coach on Aug. 24, 2009. A long-time assistant coach for the team, he moved up to take the place of Cliff Myers, who retired after 16 seasons coaching both the men’s and women’s tennis teams.
In 2021-22, Remsburg guided his team to the program's second MAC Commonwealth title and finished the season with an overall record of 16-7 and a perfect 7-0 conference record. Five student-athletes were named to the All-MAC Commonwealth Team, with Justin Schuetz and Jeffrey Bauer earning first team honors while Brendan Byler, Brady McLucas, and Adam Warren were second team honorees. Additionally, Schuetz was named the Player of the Year.
In 2020-21, Remsburg led LVC to a 7-3 overall record and 3-2 in conference action and advanced to the MAC Commonwealth semifinals. Remsburg guided four players to All-MAC Commonealth recognition: Luke Senft, Ben Hinkley, and Brendan Byler (Second Team) and Jeffrey Bauer (Honorable Mention).
In 2019-20, Remsburg guided LVC to a 5-3 record before the majority of the spring season was cut short due to the COVID-19 outbreak. Remsburg recorded his 100th career victory in the Fall.
In 2018-19, Remsburg led the Dutchmen to 11 wins on the season and a trip to the MAC Commonwealth Semifinal round. He also guided four Dutchmen to All-Conference honors, including Justin Schuetz, who was named the MAC Commonwealth's Rookie of the Year. Blake Martin earned Second Team honors, while Elliott Kleckner and Reed Morris garnered Honorable Mention.
Remsburg led LVC to 11 wins and its second consecutive MAC Commonwealth Championship Match in 2017-18. Under his tutelage, Blake Martin was named to the MAC Commonwealth All-Conference First Team in just his second season with the team, while senior Jordan Heavel earned an all-conference honorable mention nod. The Flying Dutchmen also succeeded in the classroom, with eight players earning spots on the MAC Academic Honor Roll.
Remsburg led the Dutchmen to an appearance in the 2017 MAC Commonwealth Championship Match after a strong regular season that saw the squad win 12 contests. Under Remsburg's watch, Nick Jones and Jonathan Hastings earned MAC Commonwealth All-Conference honors, while six players were named to the MAC Academic Honor Roll.
After qualifying for the MAC Commonwealth postseason tournament, three Dutchmen earned All-MAC Commonwealth honors under Remsburg in 2015, with Sam Calabria being named to the all-conference first-team, Cody Manmiller earning second-team all-conference honors, and Jordan Shankroff receiving an all-conference honorable mention nod.
LVC made another run to the MAC Commonwealth postseason tournament in 2014 before falling in the conference semifinal round. Calabria and Ryan Weitzel were named to the All-MAC Commonwealth Second-Team, while Manmiller earned an all-conference honorable mention nod. Seven Dutchmen were named to the MAC Academic Honor Roll for their success on the court and in the classroom that spring.
In his first season at the helm, Remsburg guided a young team back into the MAC Commonwealth playoffs with a 9-7 overall record. In 2011, the Dutchmen returned to the playoffs with a 10-9 record, before returning to the MAC Commonwealth final in 2012 following an outstanding 17-6 campaign. The 2013 season saw the team make another trip to the conference’s postseason tournament with four players earning all-conference honors.
Remsburg joins his wife, Joy Graeff, on the LVC staff; Graeff is the head coach of the women’s tennis team. He inherited a team that was the defending MAC Commonwealth champion after a dramatic late-season run that saw the Dutchmen earn their first-ever NCAA Tournament berth.
Remsburg had been an assistant coach under Myers since 2002, helping the men’s team to a 90-58 record in that span with a conference championship. In 2009, with both the men and the women earning NCAA tournament berths, Remsburg was responsible for coaching the men in their match against Mt. Union while Myers coached the women at another site.
Remsburg continues to be active as a local USTA player.
