Ted Russell will enter his third season as head coach of the LVC ice hockey program in 2009-10. Russell was named as the third head coach in LVC ice hockey history in March 2007.
Russell returned to familiar territory at Lebanon Valley, where he served as an assistant coach over five seasons from 2001-06, including some of the most successful years in program history.
In each of his first three seasons on the bench as an assistant, Russell helped direct the Flying Dutchmen to the ECAC Northeast semifinals, with LVC reaching the ECAC Northeast championship game in 2001-02 and 2002-03. He was also on the coaching staff for Lebanon Valley’s first two years in the ECAC West, the Dutchmen’s current conference.
Before his arrival in Annville, Russell enjoyed a six-year professional hockey career, making stops with four different teams. He spent the 1995-96 season with the Dayton Bombers before suiting up for the Johnstown Chiefs in 1996-97. At Johnstown, Russell was an assistant captain and finished among the top-10 in the ECHL in defenseman scoring.
From 1997-2001, Russell took his game overseas, playing in the United Kingdom for the Petersborough Pirates (1997-99) and the Fife Flyers (1999-2001), both of the British National League. He served as team captain in both of his years in Petersborough and was a BNL First Team All-Star defenseman in 1998-99. He was won the team’s Player of the Year award in 1997-98 and was the Pirates Clubman of the Year in 1998-99. In Fife, Russell was also a BNL First Team All-Star defenseman during both of his years with the Flyers.
A 1995 graduate of the University of New Hampshire, Russell played NCAA Division I hockey for the Wildcats and earned a degree in sociology.
Russell is married to Jill Russell, Lebanon Valley’s Director of Study Abroad. They reside in Palmyra with their son, Bryson, and daughter, Avery.
