Chad Schell has served as an Assistant Coach for the Lebanon Valley College baseball team since 2008.
Schell has been the Pitching Coach during each year of his tenure with the Dutchmen, and his current responsibilities include recruiting and daily on-field support, such as throwing batting practice. He has also contributed to strength and conditioning coordination in his time on the staff, while previously serving as the First Base Coach for several years.
When Head Coach Jonas Fester joined the program in 2019, Schell was elevated to Head Assistant Coach while continuing to oversee the pitching staff. Under Fester’s leadership, Schell has helped advance pitcher development through the integration of cutting-edge technology, including Rapsodo and Trackman systems. He is also Rapsodo Pitch Design certified.
During his tenure, he has coached multiple All-Conference pitchers, including Kyle Kingsbury, who is the school's all-time strikeout leader. Schell also worked with Tommy Moore Jr., who led the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Commonwealth in wins while ranking second in ERA, to help guide the Dutchmen to the NCAA Regional Finals in 2023.
Outside of LVC, Schell serves as a Pitch Design Specialist at Champs Training Facility in Lebanon. He is also the Owner of CW Gloveworks, a small business specializing in customized baseball glove services, including restorations, repairs, and new glove break-ins.
A native of Lewistown, Pa., Schell was a standout pitcher at Lewistown High School, where he was a three-time All-Conference selection and a two-time District All-Star. He remains the school’s record holder for total strikeouts and complete-game shutouts in a season.
Schell continued his playing career at Lock Haven University, where he was a four-year letter winner. He still holds the program record for shutouts in a season (three) and famously threw three consecutive shutouts in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) competition during the 2001 campaign. Schell graduated from Lock Haven in 2002 with a bachelor’s in Communication and a minor in Psychology.
In addition to coaching, Schell works at Lebanon Valley College as an Academic Success Coach in the Center for Academic Success. In this role, he supports students in developing academic strategies, improving performance, and balancing the demands of college athletics. He also leads Dutchmen First, LVC’s first-generation student support program.
Schell resides in Mount Joy, Pa., with his wife, Jamie, and their two sons, Nolan and Reese.
