SALISBURY, Md. – The Lebanon Valley College women's volleyball team continued its opening weekend schedule on Friday evening, competing hard against Muskingum University in a 3-0 setback at the Margie Knight Classic on the campus of Salisbury University.
The Flying Dutchmen showed resilience throughout the match, battling for points against a strong Muskingum squad. Lebanon Valley received contributions across the lineup, with several players stepping up offensively while the defense worked to extend rallies and keep pressure on the Muskies.
Muskingum (2-0) opened the first set with a 9-0 run. The Flying Dutchmen responded behind the play of
Jillian Jefferys, who recorded multiple kills during the set, while
Libby Lindau added several key points offensively to help the Dutchmen find their rhythm.
Jasmine Sullivan and
Sofia Rios helped direct the attack, and a block by
Teaguen Reynolds and Jefferys highlighted LVC's defensive effort. Despite the early deficit, LVC continued to compete point-for-point during stretches of the opening set. Back-to-back kills from Jefferys and Lindau helped the Dutchmen chip away at the lead, but the Muskies were able to take the first set by a 25-10 score.
The Muskies got out to a strong start to begin the second set. Trailing 12-2, the Dutchmen rallied with a 10-5 run to cut the deficit to 17-12.
Hadley Sparks sparked the comeback with multiple kills, while
Riley Mack provided offense and a block.
Casey Levan delivered a service ace during the stretch, and Lindau continued to produce points as LVC kept pressure on the Muskies. The Dutchmen were able to close the gap even further as they cut the lead to 20-16. The Muskies responded with the final five points of the set to take a 2-0 lead.
The Dutchmen jumped out to an early 4-1 advantage in the third set. Reynolds, Jefferys, Sparks, and Lindau all contributed points during the opening run, while Levan added another service ace to help LVC build a 9-8 lead. Muskingum used a three-point rally to take the lead in the set at 12-10. The Muskies used another three-point rally to extend the lead to four points at 16-12. The teams traded points through much of the set before Muskingum pulled away with five of the final six points to take the third set 25-18.
Inside the Box
- Lindau paced the Flying Dutchmen offense with a team-high seven kills while hitting .214 and finishing with seven points.
- Sparks added six kills, two assists, six digs, and a block assist in an all-around performance for Lebanon Valley.
- Sullivan directed the offense with a match-high 11 assists while also contributing two service aces and seven digs.
- Molly Thomas anchored the back row with a team-best 13 digs.
- Jefferys recorded four kills and was active at the net with a solo block and a block assist.
- Rios provided a spark as a setter with eight assists and added a solo block on the defensive end.
- Levan recorded two service aces and eight digs.
- Reynolds contributed two kills and two block assists, helping Lebanon Valley's effort at the net.
- The Dutchmen received balanced production throughout the lineup, with six different players recording at least two kills and the team totaling 42 digs.

The Dutchmen will finish play at the Margie Knight Classic tomorrow with a pair of matches. They will first take on Drew University at 1 p.m. before wrapping up the weekend against the hosts of Salisbury at 5 p.m.
