LANCASTER, Pa. – Gavin Rapp recorded a game-high three points with a goal and an assist, helping fuel the Lebanon Valley College men's soccer team's 2-0 victory over Lancaster Bible College on Friday, Sept. 4, at Donald H. Funk Field at Willis & Martha Herr Stadium.
Ollie Lynch also came through with LVC's first goal, which proved to be the game-winner.
The Dutchmen (2-0-0) and Chargers (0-2-0) battled defensively early in the first half, as LVC took just two shots and held the opposition to one off-target shot during the first 15 minutes. In this stretch,
Nathan Kimball and Rapp each registered an attempt for Lebanon Valley that was saved. The Flying Dutchmen then opened the scoring 15:30 into the contest, taking a 1-0 lead over Lancaster Bible. The program got on the board when Lynch sent the ball into the upper-right corner of the net for a goal, courtesy of an assist by Rapp.
Lebanon Valley kept working to generate offensive opportunities as the first stanza progressed, as
Charlie Kramer sent a shot off the crossbar at the 23:15 mark and
Will Burton had a try go above the net at the 25:38 mark. This was followed by the teams continuing to battle on the defensive end, as neither squad took another shot until there were less than four minutes remaining in the first.
Eleazar Boachie put a shot on goal for the Dutchmen at the 41:13 mark, which was saved. Ultimately, LVC kept the Chargers from logging a shot on goal in the stanza and took its one-goal advantage into halftime.
Strong defense remained the story at the beginning of the second half, as neither side took another shot until Rapp had a try go above the net at the 54:13 mark. The Dutchmen later added a point at the 60:07 mark, extending their advantage to 2-0. The program went ahead by two when Rapp delivered a shot into the lower-right corner of the net for a goal, after an assist by Kramer. LVC proceeded to create more scoring chances as the game rolled on, as Burton and
Tyler Wescott each took a shot that was saved within 10 seconds in the 68th minute.
Lancaster Bible registered its only shot on goal of the night 78:47 into the contest, and Lebanon Valley answered with a save by goalkeeper
Ryan Simonette. At the 83:20 mark, a foul in the box prompted
Logan Hicks to take a penalty kick that was saved. The Chargers countered with a shot attempt at the 88:36 mark, which LVC's defense blocked. The Dutchmen went on to preserve their 2-0 lead through the conclusion of the second half, sealing the win.
