Women’s Tennis Clinches Postseason Berth with Win at Arcadia

GLENSIDE, Pa. – The Lebanon Valley women's tennis team took care of business on Saturday afternoon with a 6-1 victory at Arcadia University to lock down a berth in the Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom Championship.
 
The Dutchmen (13-3, 4-0 MAC Freedom) won two of the three doubles matches and five of the six singles matches to clinch the program's third consecutive berth into the MAC Freedom Championship. The win puts the squad on the brink of securing at least the two seed in the conference tournament and a home semifinal match. Arcadia's two victories came at number one doubles and number one singles.
 
Inside the Box
  • Megan Martin and Emily Bryant were the first doubles court to finish as they secured a 6-0 victory at number three. Martin is 9-2 in doubles play this year, while Bryant is 6-1, and this was their first time playing as partners in a match.
  • Sarah McComas and Nikki Denbowski were a 6-1 winner at number two to clinch the doubles point. They are 3-0 in conference matches this year.
  • Erika Badner gave the Dutchmen a 2-0 lead with a 6-1, 6-2 victory at number three singles. The sophomore improved to 2-0 in conference play and 9-5 in dual matches.
  • McComas pushed the advantage to 3-0 with a 7-6 (7-1), 6-2 win at number two singles. The senior played her first match at the number two flight and improved to 2-1 in conference play.
  • Laken Kelly earned a 6-1, 6-3 win at number four singles to clinch the match victory. She won her 10th singles match of the season and improved to 2-0 in conference matches.
  • Denbowski recorded her first career double bagel with a 6-0, 6-0 victory at number five singles. The senior improved to 6-2 on the season.
  • Gigi Guay wrapped things up at number six with a 6-2, 6-1 victory. The senior is 7-0 this season and 3-0 in conference play.
  • Stone dropped a tough 7-5 victory in doubles with Badner, and then fell in three sets, 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 during her number one singles match.
Up Next
The Dutchmen will celebrate Senior Day on Tuesday, April 21, prior to the team's match against DeSales University. First serves against the Bulldogs are scheduled for 4 p.m. at the Shankroff Tennis Center. A win over DeSales will clinch a home semifinal match for the Dutchmen.
