Dutchmen Defeat Wilkes to Wrap Successful Trip to Hilton Head

HILTON HEAD, S.C. – The Lebanon Valley women's tennis team wrapped up a great week in Hilton Head with a 6-1 victory over Wilkes University on Thursday morning at the Hilton Head High School.
 
The Dutchmen (6-2) earned the doubles point by winning at numbers two and three. LVC then won five of the six singles matches to earn the program's third consecutive win over the Colonels. The squad also wrapped up an excellent week in Hilton Head when they won four of their five matches, with the only loss being a one-point defeat to Lynchburg on Monday.
 
Inside the Box
  • Megan Martin and Katie Berra earned a 6-1 victory at number two doubles to improve to 5-1 this season as playing partners.
  • Nikki Denbowski and Emily Bryant won 6-2 at number three to give the Dutchmen the first point of the match.
  • Martin improved to 5-1 in singles play during dual matches with a 6-1, 6-4 victory at number two. She finished the week with a 6-2 overall record between singles and doubles.
  • Badner won her second straight match with a 6-0, 6-2 victory at number three. Badner is 3-0 this season when playing at the number three flight.
  • Denbowski rallied for a 4-6, 7-5, 1-0 (13-11) three-set victory at number four. The senior is 3-0 in singles play this year and won six of her seven total matches in Hilton Head.
  • Laken Kelly won 6-2, 6-4 at number five to improve to 6-2 in singles play and clinch the match victory. The sophomore has won her last three matches.
  • Gigi Guay won her third match of the year with a 6-2, 6-1 victory at number six. The senior is 3-0 this season and has dropped just four total games in six sets.
Up Next
The Dutchmen will return to Annville, where they will play their first home dual match of the spring next Wednesday, March 11, as the team welcomes Drew University to the Shankroff Tennis Center. First serves against the Rangers are scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
