ANNVILLE, Pa. – The Lebanon Valley women's tennis team earned a pair of wins on Saturday in the first home matches of the spring season as the Dutchmen swept Eastern University 7-0 in the morning and then edged Ursinus College 4-3 in the afternoon at the Shankroff Tennis Center in Annville.
LVC (8-2) played two different lineups in the two matches, with the morning match having three Dutchmen making their season debuts. The Dutchmen swept all nine matches against the Eagles, winning all three doubles matches, dropping just one game, and then winning all six singles matches in straight sets. Ursinus won two of the three doubles matches in the afternoon contest to take the first point of the match. The Dutchmen rallied to win four of the six singles matches to earn their fifth consecutive victory.
Inside the Boxes
- Laken Kelly was 2-0 in singles play on the day with the match-clinching fourth point in both matches. She was a 6-4, 6-1 victor at number two against Eastern, and a 6-2, 6-2 winner at number five against the Bears. The sophomore is 8-2 in singles play this year and has won her last five matches.
- Erika Badner earned a 6-2, 6-0 victory at number one against the Eagles and dropped a hard-fought 6-3, 6-4 battle at number three against the Bears. She went 2-0 at number two doubles, recording a 6-0 victory with Nikki Denbowski against Eastern and a 6-0 victory with Katie Berra against Ursinus.
- Denbowski was also 1-1 in singles play today as she had a 6-0, 6-2 victory at number three against Eastern.
- Gigi Guay improved to 4-0 this year with a 6-3, 6-1 victory at number four singles against the Eagles.
- Marissa Nicholson and Ella Stauffer won in their first collegiate singles matches against Eastern. Nicholson was a 6-1, 6-2 winner at number five while Stauffer won 6-0, 6-2 at number six.
- Sarah McComas had a thrilling 6-4, 7-6 (7-3) victory at number one singles against Ursinus.
- Catherine Stone recorded her third double bagel of the year with a 6-0, 6-0 victory at number two against Ursinus.
- Berra was a 6-2, 6-2 winner at number four singles to give the Dutchmen a 3-2 lead in the match against Ursinus. Berra and Badner were the lone doubles winners at number two with a 6-0 victory in the match.
- Emily Bryant and Zowie Zokuskie were 6-1 winners at number three doubles in the match against the Eagles.
