ANNVILLE, Pa. – Molly Whisler and
Elizabeth Morgan each scored two goals as the Lebanon Valley women's lacrosse team battled tough in a 13-4 defeat to 20th-ranked Haverford College on Wednesday at Arnold Field in Annville.
The Dutchmen (2-3) came out strong against the Fords (3-1), forcing turnovers on Haverford's first two offensive possessions. Whisler gave the Dutchmen a 1-0 lead about four minutes into the game as
Kyla Hebert found her streaking towards the crease.
Kamille Bagapuro won the next draw control, and the Dutchmen put two shots on net. Hebert had a shot saved, and then Bagapuro had her attempt saved. The Fords cleared the ball and were able to score the equalizer with 9:43 to play in the first. Whisler scored her second goal of the game and 10th of the season two minutes later as Morgan found her open across the middle. Haverford responded a minute later to even the score at two. The teams battled over the next four minutes with neither team able to get a shot. The Fords took advantage of LVC's first card of the game and scored a pair of goals within 30 seconds of each other to go up 4-2, a lead they held through the end of the first quarter.
Haverford began the second quarter with the ball, but
Grace Marchese came up with a ground ball on a turnover, and the Dutchmen cleared the ball. Whisler nearly scored as her shot hit the post. The Fords countered with three goals over a span of three minutes to build the lead up to five at 7-2. The Dutchmen caused a couple of turnovers but were held in check by a stingy defensive effort by Haverford. The Fords scored twice over the final four minutes of the half to take a 9-2 advantage into the break.
LVC came out of the second half and forced two turnovers on Haverford's first two offensive possessions. Morgan scored the first goal of the half, and she fired a shot in the back of the net after receiving a pass from
Bethany Cohee. The Fords answered by scoring with 10:05 on the clock to push the advantage back to seven. Hebert had a shot blocked, and then Haverford hit the post at the other end of the field. Morgan nearly scored with 5:20 to play in the quarter but had her shot saved. The teams fought up and down the field over the rest of the quarter, with neither team able to score.
The Dutchmen took advantage of a card by the Fords a couple of minutes into the fourth quarter as Hebert connected with Morgan for a woman-up goal. The Fords countered with two quick goals over the next two minutes.
Katie DeWitt and Morgan put shots wide with a little under nine minutes to play. The Fords scored their final goal of the game with just under eight minutes on the clock.
