ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. – The Lebanon Valley women's lacrosse team used a big second quarter where they outscored host Elizabethtown College 5-0 to pull away from the Blue Jays for a 16-6 victory on Saturday afternoon at Wolf Field in Elizabethtown.
The Dutchmen (4-3) won the first meeting since 2023 between the two local programs after a slow start to the game.
Chloe Moser won the opening draw control, and the teams traded turnovers in their offensive ends of the field.
Elizabeth Morgan hit the post on the first shot of the game. Morgan scored the game's first goal with 11:19 to play in the quarter off a pass from
Katie DeWitt. The Blue Jays countered right back, scoring 20 seconds later to even the score.
Kamille Bagapuro put a shot wide before LVC was called for a card.
Grace Marchese forced a turnover to give the Dutchmen the ball as they killed off the rest of the penalty. DeWitt scored a free-position goal a couple of minutes later to give LVC back the lead.
Kyla Herbert nearly increased the lead with a little more than five minutes to play as she had a shot blocked and then a rebound attempt saved. Elizabethtown was able to clear the ball and scored on a free position to tie things up. The Dutchmen took advantage of their first extra-woman opportunity of the game as
Molly Whisler scored off a pass from behind the crease by
Bethany Cohee with 1:55 left on the clock. The Blue Jays responded with a woman-up goal of their own less than a minute later to tie the score at three after the first period of play.
LVC took the lead for good a little over a minute into the second quarter as Morgan found Whisler over the middle for her second goal of the game. DeWitt hit the crossbar on LVC's next offensive possession.
Maddie Puleo and Bagapuro put shots wide before Morgan found the back of the cage for the second time off a feed by DeWitt. The junior completed her hat trick a couple of minutes later as she scored unassisted with 6:20 left in the half.
The teams battled up and down the field over the next few minutes, trading turnovers in the offensive zone. Morgan had a shot saved, and then the Dutchmen forced a failed clear attempt as
Annelise Shack knocked the ball away and
Nina Humpf picked up the ground ball. A green card gave LVC a woman-up advantage, and they capitalized as Hebert scored off a pass from Bagapuro to make it 7-3 with 2:10 on the clock. Moser won the next draw, and the Dutchmen scored almost a minute later with Cohee finding Morgan open for her fourth goal. The Dutchmen pressed in the final minute to add to the score as Humpf and Morgan put shots wide before Morgan hit the post on the final shot of the half.
LVC's dominating run continued into the second half as Humpf scored two minutes in to make it a six-goal advantage. Moser won another draw, and Morgan tallied her fifth goal to make it 10-3 with 12:25 remaining in the quarter. The Blue Jays ended LVC's scoring streak a few minutes later with a free-position goal. The Dutchmen responded with their third woman-up goal of the game as Whisler scored off another pass from Cohee with 6:39 left on the clock.
The teams traded turnovers over the next few minutes as
Allison Keeney caused a turnover, and then DeWitt picked up a ground ball on a bad pass during a clear attempt.
Anna Ridlon caused a turnover as Kenney picked up the ground ball and was fouled hard enough to merit a card. LVC scored three goals over the final four minutes of the quarter, starting with a woman-up goal by Bagapuro off an assist from Morgan. Moser won the next draw and, less than a minute later, Morgan dished out another assist, this time to
Hannah Schneider, to make it 13-4. The Dutchmen were shown a card with 2:56 on the clock, but
Gigi Ditsky made a save in goal, and Whisler drove to the crease for a goal to push the advantage to 10 goals after three quarters.
The Dutchmen were able to keep the clock moving in the fourth quarter as they kept the 10-goal advantage throughout the entire period. Whisler hit the post a few minutes in. Hebert then found Humpf open for her second goal of the game. The Blue Jays answered three minutes later with a goal to get the deficit back to 10 at 15-5. Elizabethtown nearly scored a few minutes later as they hit the crossbar on a free position shot, and then Ditsky came up with another big save. Keeney scored with a little over three minutes to play to make it 16-5 before the Blue Jays had a goal in the final 10 seconds to set the final score.
Inside the Box
- LVC won its fourth consecutive matchup against Elizabethtown to even the all-time series at six games apiece.
- Morgan led the way with eight points on a season-high five goals and three assists. The junior recorded the sixth five-goal game of her career while going over the 75-career goal mark. She leads the Dutchmen in scoring this season with 33 points, recording at least two points in all seven games.
- Whisler scored four goals on five shots. This is her second consecutive four-goal game and her fourth hat trick of the season.
- Cohee had three assists to hit 150 career points. The senior has 151 points on 34 goals and 117 assists during her four years at The Valley. Cohee has recorded at least three assists in three games this year.
- DeWitt had three points on one goal and two assists, while Bagapuro and Hebert added a goal and an assist each.
- Humpf scored twice while Keeney and Schneider tallied a goal apiece.
- Moser led the defensive effort with a season-high 10 draw controls, three caused turnovers, and four ground balls.
- Ridlon caused a game-high five turnovers with two ground balls, while Keeney had three caused turnovers and three ground balls. Marchese also had three caused turnovers and two ground balls.
- The Dutchmen outshot the Blue Jays 34-13, including 14-2 in the second quarter. LVC had a 13-11 draw control advantage and picked up 24 ground balls compared to just 14 for the hosts. The Dutchmen were 23-25 on clear attempts.

LVC will continue its stretch of road games on Wednesday with a short trip to Reading, where they will face Albright College. The opening draw is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Shirk Stadium.
