ANNVILLE, Pa. – Lebanon Valley senior
Kyla Hebert scored a career-high seven goals to lead the women's lacrosse team to a dominant 19-2 victory over visiting Juniata College on Saturday afternoon at Arnold Field in Annville.
The Dutchmen (2-2) jumped all over the Eagles (0-2) in the opening quarter with seven goals while outshooting Juniata 12-0.
Molly Whisler took the first shot of the game, which was saved.
Elizabeth Morgan gave the Dutchmen the lead with her seventh goal of the season.
Nina Humpf won the next draw control and scored about 30 seconds later to push the advantage to 2-0.
Grace Marchese caused a turnover and grabbed the ground ball, leading to
Bethany Cohee finding Whisler from behind the net for her sixth goal of the year.
LVC kept the pressure on as Hebert scored twice over a span of two minutes. Whisler had the assist on the second goal. Morgan sent a shot wide before Cohee connected with Whisler for a woman-up goal to make it 6-0 with 8:27 on the clock in the quarter.
Kamille Bagapuro scored the first goal of her career three minutes later to push the advantage to seven. The Dutchmen controlled possession for much of the rest of the quarter as Cohee sent a shot wide and
Katie DeWitt had a shot saved.
Hebert completed her hat trick a little over a minute into the second quarter as Whisler recorded another assist. Bagapuro and Morgan had shots saved before
Hannah Schneider scored on a free position attempt to increase the lead to 9-0 with 8:24 left in the half. The Dutchmen quickly got the advantage over 10 goals as Morgan scored an unassisted goal, and then
Annelise Shack found the back of the net for the second time this season off an assist by Bagapuro.
Juniata scored its first goal of the game with 4:16 left before LVC rattled off two more goals before halftime. DeWitt scored off a rebound from a Hebert shot that was saved, and then LVC got out in transition during the final minute, and Cohee found Whisler for her eighth goal of the season on the final play of the half.
The second half began with Hebert finding the back of the net just over 30 seconds in. The Eagles put a shot wide, and then Whisler had a shot saved over the next couple of minutes. The score remained 14-1 until
Maddie Puleo fired a shot into the back of the cage with 5:11 on the clock. The Eagles won the following draw and scored to cut the advantage to 15-2. Hebert answered the goal with a free position goal to put the Dutchmen up by 14 heading into the fourth quarter.
LVC scored three more goals in the fourth quarter, with Hebert scoring twice. The senior scored first as the Dutchmen reversed the field following a
Gigi Ditsky save, and Hebert ran past a defender for a close-range shot at the goal. Bagapuro scored a free-position goal with 8:26 to play for her second goal of the game. The Dutchmen took advantage of playing two women up as Hebert found the back of the net for the seventh time to make it 19-2. Juniata had an opportunity to score with a little over two minutes to play, but a free-position shot sailed high.
Inside the Box
- 10 different Dutchmen scored in the game as LVC put 31 shots on goal.
- Hebert took eight shots and scored a career-high seven goals to double her goal total for the year to 14. Her first goal in the fourth quarter was the 50th point of her career.
- Whisler had five points on three goals and two assists. The senior recorded her second hat trick of the season on six shots.
- Cohee finished with three assists while Morgan scored two goals on six shots.
- Bagapuro had the first three points of her career on two goals and one assist.
- Shack, Humpf, Puleo, Schneider, and DeWitt scored one goal each.
- The Dutchmen had a 36-12 shot advantage and a 24-8 edge in ground balls.
- LVC was 24-25 on clear attempts and scored on all three of its free position shots.
- Marchese won seven draw controls, picked up seven ground balls, and caused three turnovers to lead the defensive effort.
