READING, Pa. – The Lebanon Valley men's lacrosse team outscored host Albright College 10-0 in the second quarter to pull away for a 21-5 victory over the Lions on Wednesday at Shirk Stadium in Reading.
The Dutchmen (2-1) got on the board first in the first minute as
Connor Mulada found
Ryan Grace over the middle for a goal. Albright hit the post on its first shot of the game before
Dylan Rinyak,
Brayden Brown,
Jacob Mrose, and
Wyatt Shamer put shots wide. LVC took a 2-0 lead with just over nine minutes to play in the quarter as Grace found
Rowan Myers open for a goal.
Connor Rowe won the ensuing face-off and had his shot saved. Brown and Shamer had shots saved before the Lions got on the board with a goal to cut the lead in half. Rowe fired right back, winning the face-off and scoring the first goal of his career just eight seconds later. Albright struck back with a goal to make it 3-2 with five minutes remaining in the quarter. Rowe won the next face-off, and
Hayden Carling hit the post. Two minutes later, Grace scored his second goal of the game to put LVC up by two.
Kellen Markley made a big save at the end of the quarter to keep the score 4-2 after the first 15 minutes of play.
Grace didn't wait long to complete his hat trick in the second quarter, scoring just 31 seconds in. LVC added to the lead with 10:46 to go in the half as Brown scored off an assist from
Sam Spagnuolo. The Dutchmen added three quick goals in a span of a minute. Carling fed Grace for a goal with 8:59 on the clock. The Dutchmen won the next face-off, and
Sean Poole scored off an assist by Myers. Poole then added another goal off an assist from Grace to make it 9-2 with just under eight to play. The Dutchmen were held off the board over the next four minutes until scoring five goals over the final 3:30. Poole assisted
Ethan Keenan for a man-up goal to begin the run. Carling and Keenan had a pair of unassisted goals. Shamer scored with 29 seconds on the clock off an assist from
Trevor Moore. Carling scored with three seconds left to put the Dutchmen up 14-2 at the half.
The scoring run continued into the third quarter as LVC added five more goals and shut down the Lions offensively, allowing just two total shots in the quarter. Grace scored the first goal of the half off an assist by Carling. A little over a minute later, Myers worked his way free for a goal. Carling and Rowe then scored back-to-back goals six seconds apart to push the advantage to 16 about halfway through the quarter. The Dutchmen controlled possession, running the clock down on their possessions until Myers scored with 1:46 on the clock to make it 19-2. Brown nearly added a goal in the final minute as his shot hit the post.
The Lions scored to begin the fourth quarter on the first possession. The teams battled up and down the field until Poole completed his hat trick off an assist by Shamer with 7:28 to play. Less than a minute later, Moore found space and scored to push the advantage to 21-3. The Lions scored twice over the final 5:30 to set the final score. LVC ran the clock down on its offensive possessions and closed out the game with its biggest win over Albright in program history.
Inside the Box
- The Dutchmen have now won eight straight games against the Lions. The 21 goals are the most LVC has scored in the all-time series, while the five goals allowed ties the least they have given up.
- Grace led the team with seven points on five goals and two assists. The sophomore also had four ground balls and three caused turnovers.
- Carling finished with five points on three goals and two assists. He scored on all three shots he put on goal and took five total shots.
- Poole and Myers had three goals and one assist for four points each.
- Rowe won 16 of 22 face-offs, had a game-high eight ground balls, and scored the first two goals of his career.
- Keenan scored two goals on six shots, while Brown scored one goal on seven shots.
- Moore and Shamer had one goal and one assist apiece.
- Mulada and Spagnuolo each dished out an assist.
- LVC had a 60-19 shot advantage, including a 36-12 advantage in shots on goal. The Dutchmen were 19-21 on clear attempts and won 20 of the 30 face-offs.

The Dutchmen will return to Arnold Field for the next two games. They will host Goucher College on Saturday in the first game of a lacrosse doubleheader on Arnold Field. Game time is scheduled for 12 p.m. against the Gophers.
