Mak’s Goal Secures Women’s Ice Hockey’s Overtime Win at Stevenson

REISTERSTOWN, Md. – Abby Mak netted her first career goal for the Lebanon Valley College women's ice hockey team in overtime, providing the program with an exciting 2-1 victory at Stevenson University on Saturday, Feb. 14, at the Reisterstown SportsPlex.

The Mustangs (4-18-1, 4-14-1 MAC) put two shots on target during the first 1:37 of the first period, and goaltender Mia Frisoni answered with a pair of saves for the Dutchmen (17-6-0, 14-5-0 MAC). Stevenson then started a power play in the fifth minute and scored on a power-play goal by Abby Smith at the 5:23 mark, taking a 1-0 lead. Lebanon Valley countered with some offensive opportunities, as Anna Dale put five shots on target that were saved, and Mak had a try saved during the next 4:37.

The Mustangs started a power play in the 11th minute of the first frame, and the Flying Dutchmen responded with two stops by Frisoni and a block by Camryn Crouch during a successful penalty kill. The goaltender also made two saves for LVC within three seconds in the 14th minute. The programs proceeded to go back and forth through the remainder of the period, as each team put two shots on goal that were saved.

Lebanon Valley continued to battle defensively when the second period got underway, as Frisoni made a save during a successful penalty kill that started in the second minute. The Dutchmen also kept working to create scoring chances, as the team tallied 17 shots on target in the 10:39 after the conclusion of Stevenson's power play. LVC took eight of these shots during power plays, including attempts by McKayla Romano and Leela Nemani when the team had a 4-on-3 advantage.

The Flying Dutchmen got on the board 14:56 into the second period, tying the game at 1-1. The program evened the score with a goal by Dale, courtesy of an assist by Tiffany Anderson. Lebanon Valley continued to send the puck toward the net as the frame progressed, as the team outshot the opposition 7-5 during the rest of the stanza. Dale and Addison Taylert took two of these shots for LVC during a power play, which began in the 18th minute. Frisoni also logged a save for the Flying Dutchmen with 15 seconds left while Stevenson was on a power play.

The Mustangs remained on a power play for the first 38 seconds of the third period, and the Dutchmen prevented the opposition from taking a shot to conclude a successful penalty kill. Stevenson also started a power play in the fourth minute, but LVC kept the squad from putting a shot on target during another successful penalty kill. Lebanon Valley then began a power play in the seventh minute, which led to Anderson and Addi Alaoui each taking a shot that was saved. Sky Campanile also generated an offensive opportunity, registering a shot that was saved at the 9:50 mark.

Back on the defensive end, Frisoni recorded five saves for Lebanon Valley over the next 5:25. The Dutchmen later started another power play in the 17th minute, which prompted Dale, Anderson, and Brysha Schmidt to each put a shot on goal that was saved.
