Men’s Soccer Delivers Win at Delaware Valley, Clinches Postseason Spot

DOYLESTOWN, Pa. – Will Burton and Logan Hicks netted clutch goals for the Lebanon Valley College men's soccer team in the second half, propelling the program to a 2-1 victory over Delaware Valley University on Saturday, Oct. 24, at Robert A. Lipinski Field at James Work Memorial Stadium. LVC clinched a spot in the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom Tournament due to results earlier in the day.

The Dutchmen (12-2-2, 5-0-1 MAC Freedom) and Aggies (6-4-5, 1-2-3 MAC Freedom) went back and forth early in the first half, as each program tallied just one shot during the first 9:31. Delaware Valley also tallied an attempt at the 12:40 mark, which went to the right of the net. Lebanon Valley followed this by generating some offensive opportunities, including a shot by Nathan Kimball that went above the net at the 22:27 mark, and a try by Burton that was saved at the 24:19 mark.

The programs proceeded to battle defensively for over 17 minutes, as neither squad took a shot during this stretch. Eli Yerger then put a shot on goal for the Flying Dutchmen, which was saved at the 41:35 mark. Gavin Rapp also contributed to LVC's offensive efforts, logging a shot that went to the left of the net at the 43:09 mark. The teams entered halftime in a scoreless tie.

Lebanon Valley kept working to create scoring chances in the second half, as Kimball put a shot on target that was saved at the 50:32 mark, and Burton had an attempt saved at the 52:05 mark. The Aggies countered with a shot at the 55:35 mark, and LVC responded with a save by goalkeeper Isaac Yerger. Delaware Valley got on the board 55:47 into the game, taking a 1-0 lead on a goal by Chalie Sheel.

The Dutchmen answered back at the 62:48 mark, tying the game at 1-1. The program evened the score when Burton sent a shot into the lower-right corner of the net for a goal, courtesy of an assist by Kimball. Lebanon Valley quickly found the net again at the 65:10 mark, going ahead 2-1 when Logan Hicks kicked the ball into the lower-left corner of the net for a clutch goal. The Aggies later attempted a shot at the 73:40 mark, but LVC's defense came through with a block. This would stand as the final score, as Lebanon Valley maintained its lead through the end of play to seal the victory.
