Sejuste and Main Score in Double Figures at Arcadia

GLENSIDE, Pa. – The Lebanon Valley men's basketball team received outstanding efforts from Giovanni Sejuste and Michael Main in a tough 83-70 defeat at Arcadia University on Saturday afternoon in Glenside.
 
The Dutchmen (3-12, 1-3 MAC Freedom) got out to a great start against the Knights (10-5, 3-1 MAC Freedom) scoring on the first three possessions of the game. Demarcus Bandy found Phil Unangst in the paint for a layup on the first play of the game. Sejuste then hit a three-pointer on the right wing. The guard then stole the ball, and Jason Penn gave LVC an 8-0 advantage a couple minutes in with a three-pointer on the right side. Arcadia got on the board with a pair of free throws before Sejuste scored on a layup to make it 10-2. Kyle tang drove for a layup, and the Knights hit three free throws to cut the deficit to seven.
 
Arcadia made its first field goal of the game and then knocked down a three-pointer to get within two at the first media timeout of the game. The Dutchmen came out of the timeout strong defensively and held the Knights without a point for the next three minutes. Offensively, Main and Kerlin knocked down three-pointers to get the advantage back up to eight. The Knights stopped the run with a three-pointer, and then Kerlin knocked down a jumper on the left side. Arcadia answered with a bucket, and LVC countered with a Karson Pavlik three-pointer off an assist from Bandy.
 
The Knights hit a three-pointer and knocked down a pair of free throws to get within three at 23-20 with 9:31 to go in the half. Sejuste and Main scored on layups before the Knights used an 8-0 run to take a 31-27 lead. Luke Chilton ended the scoreless drought with a made free throw. The Knights scored back-to-back layups using strong defensive pressure to go up by seven. Sejuste and Pavlik hit layups, but each bucket was answered at the other end by the hosts. Arcadia used strong free throw shooting to take a 43-33 lead before Sejuste cut the deficit to nine at the half with a made free throw with no time on the clock.
 
Sejuste scored LVC's first five points of the second half with a foul line jumper and a traditional three-point play to cut the lead to 45-39. Arcadia responded with the next nine points to go up by 15. Sejuste made a pair of shots at the line and then Bandy made two more shots at the line. The Knights knocked down a pair of three-pointers around a Sejuste putback layup. Bandy and Sejuste hit free throws to cut the deficit to 62-47 at the under-12 media timeout.
 
The Knights hit a pair of three-pointers and Sejuste scored five points, including three at the line to keep the deficit at 16. Main made a pair of shots at the line before a 4-0 AU run pushed the advantage back up to 18. Unangst drove to the hoop for a layup and Tang knocked down two free throws, but Arcadia answered each time with more free throws and a three-pointer to take an 82-60 lead with 3:38 left. LVC kept battling as Main knocked down a three-pointer on the right side, Aaron Lacy scored in the paint, Owen Chernich hit a corner three-pointer, and Gannon Perlini had a steal and bucket to cut the deficit back down to 12 with under a minute to play. The Knights hit a free throw to set the final score.
 
Inside the Box
  • Sejuste had another breakout performance with a game-high 27 points, including 10 at the line. The guard was 8-for-14 from the field, pulled down three rebounds, blocked two shots, and recorded two steals.
  • Main was in double figures for the second time this year with 10 points and a team-high seven rebounds. He was 3-for-6 from the field and hit a pair of three-pointers.
  • Kerlin and Pavlik scored five points each while Tang and Unangst score four apiece.
  • The Dutchmen score 28 points in the paint and were 17-for-23 at the free throw line.
Up Next
The Dutchmen will be at home twice next week after playing three of the first four conference games on the road. LVC will host FDU-Florham on Wednesday, Jan. 21 at 7 p.m. inside Sorrentino Gymnasium.
