Reynolds’ Career Match Powers Dutchmen over Rutgers-Camden

CHESTERTOWN, Md. – Lebanon Valley junior Teaguen Reynolds had a career-high 21 points to power the volleyball squad to a 3-1 victory over Rutgers-Camden on Saturday afternoon at the Washington College (Md.) tri-match in Chestertown, Maryland, at the Cain Athletic Center. The hosts Shorewomen defeated LVC 3-0 in the last match of the day.
 
LVC (4-8) defeated the Scarlet Raptors (3-6) in four sets, winning the first two sets 25-16 and 25-13. Rutgers-Camden won the third set 25-19 before the Dutchmen closed out the match with a 26-24 win in the fourth set. Washington (9-4) defeated LVC by set scores of 25-22, 25-13, and 25-21.
 
Match vs. Rutgers-Camden
The Raptors scored the first three points of the match. Reynolds stopped the run with a block. She then added a block assist with Riley Mack to even the score at three. The teams traded points in a closely contested set until Mattea Penner and Lyla Arfanella scored consecutive points to give the Dutchmen a 9-7 advantage. Camden was able to even the set at nine when Penner started a 6-0 run. Reynolds, Libby Lindau, and Sofia Okronley all recorded points during the run that gave LVC a 15-9 lead. Penner had a point and two service aces to increase the advantage to 19-11 before Reynolds got the Dutchmen to 20. The Dutchmen maintained their eight-point lead through the next eight serves, and Penner closed the set with a point.
 
Okronley gave the Dutchmen a 2-0 lead in the second set with an ace. The Raptors used a 4-1 run to take a short lead. Lindau started a string of six consecutive points for LVC to go up 9-4. Reynolds had a pair of aces during the run. The lead increased to 12-5 following an ace by Casey Levan. The Dutchmen continued their aggressive play and took an eight-point advantage on a block by Jasmine Sullivan and Margaret Cole. Camden cut into the deficit with a 4-1 rally, but Reynolds added back-to-back points. The lead was at 19-12 when Mack started a 5-0 run that ended with a pair of aces by Reynolds. An error from each team ended the set as the Dutchmen took a 2-0 lead.
 
LVC started the third set with a 5-2 run. Rutgers-Camden scored four straight points to take the lead. The teams traded points until a 5-0 rally by the Raptors gave them a 15-10 advantage. Reynolds stopped the run to begin a 5-3 rally by the Dutchmen to get within three. Camden responded with a 4-1 run that pushed the lead to 22-16. The teams traded the next six points to extend the match to a fourth set.
 
The Scarlet Raptors came out swinging in the fourth set as they took an early 8-2 lead. Lindau had a solo block to start a gradual comeback. She added a pair of points, and Reynolds served up another ace to get the deficit down to four. Kylie Nagle had a pair of back-to-back aces that made it 13-10 before a 6-1 run by the Raptors made the match look like it was headed to a fifth set. Reynolds recorded a point, and Okronley served up an ace. An attack error put the Raptors at 20, but LVC scored the next four points. The rally continued for the Dutchmen, and they got within one at 21-20. Rutgers-Camden earned a set point at 24-22 after the teams traded points. Cole kept the Dutchmen alive before Penner scored on back-to-back plays to give LVC match point. Reynolds ended the match with her 14th kill.
 
Inside the Box
  • Reynolds recorded a career-high 14 kills and hit .500. The junior also recorded five aces and had three total blocks for her 21.0 points. Her previous career-high was 13.5 points against Elizabethtown last week.
  • Lindau and Penner had 11 kills each. Lindau added two assists and five total blocks with three digs. Penner had two aces and a season-high 14 digs.
  • Okronley finished with 26 assists and three aces while Sullivan added 16 assists.
  • LVC equaled a season-high of 15 service aces and totaled a season-high 78 digs.
  • Nagle recorded three aces for the third time this year and had 12 digs.
  • Arfanella led the team in digs with a career-high 27 while Levan had 14.

Match vs. Washington (Md.)
The first set was closely contested as LVC jumped ahead 4-2 after the first six points. Jefferys had three of the Dutchmen's points during the run. The Shorewomen tied the set at five before Lindau started a string of three straight LVC points. The Dutchmen still held the three-point advantage at 10-7 when Washington used a 4-1 rally to even the score. The teams traded points back and forth, and the set was tied at 19 when the Shorewomen used a 5-1 run to take their first lead of the match. The Dutchmen were able to get within two at 24-22 before Washington scored the last point they needed to win the first set.
 
The hosts scored nine of the first 10 points in the second set to build a big lead. They continued their rally and got the advantage up to 14-2. Mack had a pair of points to get the deficit down to 10. The Shorewomen answered with three consecutive points, and LVC countered with back-to-back points from Lindau and a Levan ace. The score was 22-10 in favor of the Shorewoman when LVC scored three straight points with two by Jefferys. Washington answered with the next three points to take the second set.
 
The Shorewomen began the third set on a 5-3 run as Penner, Lindau, and Mack scored LVC's three points. The lead grew to 9-5 before Penner put away a point, Okronley served up an ace, and then Lindau and Breanne Rotz blocked an attack to make it a one-point set. The Shorewomen countered with the next eight points to go up 17-8. LVC fought back as Lindau started a 6-1 run with a pair of points. Penner had an ace, and then Mack got the deficit to four points. Washington was able to get to 20 first and held a six-point advantage when the Dutchmen put together a 5-1 run to bring the score to 21-19. The Dutchmen were able to keep it close, but Washington managed to close out the set with four of the next six points.
 
Inside the Box
  • Penner led the Dutchmen with eight kills. The senior also had one ace and six digs.
  • Lindau added seven kills and four more block assists. In just 12 matches, the junior has already equaled her block total of 29.0 during her rookie season.
  • Mack finished with seven kills and three digs.
  • Jefferys recorded six kills and four block assists.
  • Okronley had 17 assists while Sullivan had nine. Sullivan also recorded three block assists.
  • Levan recorded two service aces to finish the week with six in three matches.
  • Cole led the team in blocks with five, while Arfanella had a team-high 10 digs.
  • LVC had nine total blocks in the match.

The Dutchmen begin conference play on Wednesday evening with a trip to New Jersey to face FDU-Florham. First serve against the Devils is scheduled for 7 p.m. inside the Ferguson Recreation Center in Madison, N.J.
