Lindau Leads Volleyball in Season Opener at Haverford

HAVERFORD, Pa. – Libby Lindau recorded a match-high 10.5 points to lead the Lebanon Valley volleyball team in the season opener at Haverford College. The host Fords got out to a good start on their home court with a 3-0 (25-18, 25-19, 25-9) victory over the Dutchmen.

Haverford scored the first eight points of the match in the opening set. The Dutchmen were able to cut the lead to 9-2 following a point from Riley Mack. The Fords responded with the next six points to take a commanding 15-2 lead in the set. LVC fought back valiantly as back-to-back kills by Mattea Penner and Lindau set up a Sofia Okronley ace to cut the deficit to 17-8. The Fords managed to get the lead up to 23-11 before six straight points from the Dutchmen made it a six-point advantage. Haverford won the next two points to take the opening set.

The Dutchmen won two of the first three points in the second set to take their first lead of the match. Haverford responded with a 6-2 run to go up 7-3. The lead expanded to 10-4 before Mack ended the Fords run with a point. After an attack error by the Fords, Margaret Cole and Jasmine Sullivan got up and blocked an attack to cut the lead to three. Haverford responded with a 5-1 run to go up 15-8. Penner had a pair of points, and the Dutchmen recorded another block assist, this time by Lindau and Breanna Rotz to get back within three. The Dutchmen used a 5-3 run to get within one at 18-17 using two big blocks and three points by Lindau. The Fords closed the set strong scoring seven of the final nine points to go up by two sets.

Haverford used the momentum in the third set to jump out to a big 18-3 lead. Lindau had all three of LVC's points during the first 21 rallies of the set. The Dutchmen were able to cut the lead down to 20-8 but that was as close as they would get in the third set as the hosts won five of the final six points to close out the match.
