Women’s Tennis Defeats Messiah in Spring Home Opener

ANNVILLE, Pa. – The Lebanon Valley Women's Tennis team won eight of the nine matches in a dominate 6-1 victory over visiting Messiah University on Thursday afternoon in the first match of the spring played at the Shankroff Tennis Center in Annville.
 
LVC (5-7) swept all three doubles matches to start off the match to earn the team point. It marks the third time this season the Dutchmen have won all three doubles matches. The Dutchmen then won the first three singles matches on courts four, three, and five to clinch the match victory. Messiah's lone point came at number one in a tightly contested match. The Dutchmen added three-set victories on courts two and six.
 
Inside the Box
  • Catherine Stone and Erika Badner were the first doubles team to finish with a 6-2 victory in 26 minutes at number one. They are now 3-3 on the season and have won the past three matches playing together.
  • A couple minutes later, Katie Berra and Megan Martin clinched the doubles point with a 6-3 victory at number three. The duo won in their first match playing together.
  • Sarah McComas and Nikki Denbowski rallied from an early 3-1 deficit to win 6-4 at number two to finish off the doubles sweep. They are now 1-1 when playing together in doubles play.
  • Martin started singles play with a quick 6-1, 6-1 victory at number four to even her season record at 4-4. The sophomore has won her last two singles matches.
  • Badner overcame a slow start for a 6-3, 6-2 victory at number three. The first-year was down 3-1 in the first set before scoring the final five points to swing momentum in her favor. Badner improves to 7-6 on the season including 5-4 at number three singles.
  • Berra clinched the match victory with a 7-5, 6-1 win at number five to improve to 6-3 on the year. The first-year is 3-0 at number five and has won her last five singles matches.
  • Catherine Stone rallied from dropping the first set to earn a 2-6, 6-1, 6-0 victory at number two. She evened her record at 5-5 when played number two singles and now has a four-match winning streak.
  • Emily Bryant earned her second three-set victory of the season with a thrilling 6-2, 5-7, 1-0 (11-9) victory at number six. The first-year won her third match of the year and improved to 2-1 when playing number six.
  • McComas battled hard in both set but dropped a close 6-4, 6-4 decision at number one.
  • The Dutchmen have now won the past seven matches with Messiah dating back to 2021.
Up Next
LVC will begin conference play on Tuesday with a 4 p.m. matchup against Arcadia University at the Shankroff Tennis Center. Saturday's originally scheduled conference-opener at FDU-Florham has been postponed with no makeup date set yet.
