Women’s Tennis Clinches Postseason Berth in Sweep at King’s

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – The Lebanon Valley Women's Tennis team won all nine matches for the second consecutive day in a 7-0 sweep of King's College on a warm and sunny day at Kirby Park in Wilkes-Barre on Thursday afternoon. The victory clinched the Dutchmen a spot in next week's MAC Freedom Championship.
 
LVC (10-8, 4-1 MAC Freedom) won its fourth consecutive match while setting up a battle for second place in the regular season finale on Saturday. The Dutchmen won all nine matches for the second consecutive day and the third time this season.
 
Inside the Box
  • Katie Berra and Megan Martin earned a 6-1 victory at number one doubles to improve to 5-1 on the season and a perfect 4-0 in conference matches. The pairing played at number one for the first time this season.
  • Nikki Denbowski and Sarah McComas were 6-3 winners at number two to improve to 3-1 as playing partners. They have won their last three matches. Denbowski improved to 8-3 in doubles play this year and is on a six-match winning streak.
  • Erika Badner and Abbey DeLisio won 6-1 at number three doubles. They were the first court to finish in their first time playing together.
  • McComas won 6-2, 6-3 at number one singles for her third straight singles win. The junior improved to 3-2 in conference matches with her sixth victory of the season.
  • Catherine Stone increased her win streak to four at number two with a 6-0, 6-1 victory. She is now 11-8 on the year and 4-1 in conference matches.
  • Badner was a 6-3, 6-1 winner at number three for her third consecutive win. The first-year improved to 11-8 and 4-1 in the MAC Freedom.
  • Martin won 6-1, 6-0 at number four to improve to 7-5 on the year. She is 2-1 in conference play and is 5-5 in dual matches at number four.
  • Berra improved to 9-3 on the year with a 6-0, 6-1 victory at number five. She is now on an eight-match winning streak, is 2-0 in conference play, and is 5-0 at number five.
  • Laken Kelly wrapped things up with a 6-2, 6-1 victory at number six for her eighth win of the year. The sophomore has won her last three matches and is 8-2 including 3-0 in the MAC Freedom.
Up Next
The Dutchmen will host Misericordia University on Saturday for Senior Day at the Shankroff Tennis Center. The Dutchmen will honor DeLisio, Sarah Kramer, and Peyton Maher prior to the 1 p.m. start against the Cougars in a huge match. The winner of Saturday's match will be the second seed for next week's conference tournament and have home court-advantage in a rematch between the two teams in Wednesday's semifinal match.
