ANNVILLE, Pa. – Jace Fetterman reached base three times while recording an RBI and a run scored for the Lebanon Valley College Baseball team, as the program dropped a hard-fought 8-6 contest on Tuesday, April 1, at McGill Field. The catcher was one of six Flying Dutchmen who drove in a run during the game.
Malachi Duka started on the mound for the Dutchmen (10-14-1, 5-4 MAC Freedom) and began the afternoon with a shutout top of the first inning, recording a foul out to
Carter Enders at third base, a strikeout swinging, and a foul out to first baseman
Logan Brewer. Lebanon Valley opened the scoring in the bottom half of the first, taking an early 1-0 lead over the Falcons (15-9, 9-0 MAC Commonwealth). The club loaded the bases on a single to center field by
Owen Berry and walks by Fetterman and Brewer.
Tyler Satterfield then came through with an RBI single to shortstop, bringing home Berry.
Messiah countered with a run in the top of the second, tying the game on a double steal that included a steal of home.
Gaven Schreier entered the game to pitch for the Flying Dutchmen in the top of the third inning and posted a zero, notching the third out of the frame with a flyout to center fielder
Spencer Butz. The Falcons then added four runs in the top of the fourth, taking a 5-1 advantage on an RBI double, a sacrifice fly, an RBI single, and a balk.
Lebanon Valley responded with a run in the bottom of the fourth, narrowing the score to 5-2.
Dylan Mennillo reached base via a hit-by-pitch and got into scoring position by stealing second base. Fetterman then delivered a two-out RBI single through the right side, driving Mennillo.
Andrew Spaan came out of the bullpen for LVC in the top of the fifth inning and retired the side in order with a strikeout swinging, a lineout to Mennillo at second base, and a lineout to Berry and shortstop. Spaan also blanked the opposition in the top of the sixth, picking up another strikeout in the process.
The Falcons added two more runs in the top of the seventh inning, taking a 7-2 lead on an RBI triple to left-center field and an error. Messiah also had a sacrifice fly to center in the top of the eighth, going ahead 8-2.
Jordy Polanco then took the mound for the Dutchmen in the top of the ninth and pitched a 1-2-3 inning, recording a strikeout swinging, a lineout to Berry at shortstop, and a groundout to Berry.
Lebanon Valley battled at the plate in the bottom of the ninth inning, plating four runs to make it an 8-6 ballgame. The club got runners on the corners with no outs after Berry drew a walk and Fetterman singled down the left-field line. Butz then hit an RBI single to right-center field, knocking in Berry. Brewer followed this with an RBI double down the right-field line, scoring Fetterman.
Kody Phillips kept the rally going with an RBI single to left field, bringing home Butz.
Kenny Palmieri later came to the plate with the bases loaded and drew a one-out walk, allowing Brewer to cross the plate. Ultimately, Messiah would go on to maintain its lead through the end of the contest.

- Palmieri recorded a hit to extend his hitting streak to four while tallying a walk and an RBI.
- Phillips had a base hit and an RBI.
- Mennillo tied a game-high and season-high two walks while scoring a run for the third straight contest. The sophomore also stole a base.
- Enders drew a walk.
- LVC had three hit-by-pitches.
- Duka struck out two batters without allowing a hit in two innings of work.
- Michael Williams had a strikeout in a frame of relief, without allowing an earned run.
- Spaan fanned three batters during a three-inning appearance out of the bullpen.
- Polanco had a strikeout during a scoreless top of the ninth.
