FORT PIERCE, Fla. – Kody Phillips hit a walk-off two-run single for the Lebanon Valley College Baseball team in the bottom of the ninth inning, providing the club with a 6-5 victory over Kenyon College on Friday, March 7, at Lawnwood Field 3.
Joey Santora was also a key contributor to the win, recording two RBIs for the Flying Dutchmen.
Gaven Schreier was the starting pitcher for the Dutchmen (4-6) and began the afternoon with a scoreless top of the first inning, striking out three batters during the frame. Lebanon Valley then opened the scoring in the bottom of the first, taking a 1-0 lead over the Owls (1-3).
Kameron Wetzel led off the inning with a single to left field and promptly advanced to second with a stolen base. Phillips followed this by hitting an RBI double to right field, driving in Wetzel.

Justin Ranker in right-center field, and a flyout to right fielder
Duncan Weir. Kenyon later got on the scoreboard in the top of the third inning, tying the game at 1-1 on an RBI double down the right-field line.
Kyle McCracken then came out of the bullpen to pitch for the Flying Dutchmen in the top of the fourth, recording a groundout to second base and a pair of flyouts.
The Owls added two more runs in the top of the fifth inning, taking a 3-1 advantage on a two-run home run to left-center field. McCracken then posted a zero for Lebanon Valley in the top of the sixth, tallying two strikeouts in the process. The Dutchmen put together a rally in the bottom of the sixth, scoring three runs with two outs to go ahead 4-3. The club got runners on first and second base with one out after
Logan Brewer and
Ryan Murphy each drew a walk.
Owen Berry later hit a two-out RBI single to center field, knocking in Brewer. Berry followed by stealing second base, putting runners on second and third. Santora then hit a big two-run single up the middle for LVC, scoring Murphy and Berry.
Tony Bennage entered the game to pitch for Lebanon Valley in the top of the seventh inning and retired the side in order, logging a groundout to third base, a groundout to second base, and a strikeout swinging. Kenyon then crossed the plate in the top of the eighth, tying the contest at 4-4 on an RBI single to right field. The Owls also scored on a solo homer to left in the top of the ninth inning, going up 5-4.
The Dutchmen answered back with two runs in the bottom of the ninth, winning the game 6-5. The club loaded the bases with a pinch-hit walk by
Devin Kreger, a walk by
Duncan Weir, and a single up the middle by Wetzel. Phillips followed this by hitting a clutch two-run single up the middle to plate pinch runner
Christian Vanelli and Weir, securing Lebanon Valley's 6-5 walk-off win over Kenyon.

- Phillips recorded two hits with his first career double and tied a game-high three RBIs, marking his season-high. The first-year drove in two of these runs on his walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth.
- Santora had a hit and a career-high two RBIs.
- Wetzel tallied two hits to extend his hitting streak to four games and scored a run. The sophomore has also crossed the plate in each of his last four contests. Wetzel stole a base during the win as well.
- Fetterman hit a double during the contest. The senior has registered a base hit in each of LVC's 10 games this season.
- Berry logged a hit to bring his hitting streak to three games. The junior also had an RBI, a run scored, and a stolen base. Additionally, Berry has scored a run in each of his last four games.
- Weir posted a game-high and career-high three walks and scored the game-winning run in the bottom of the ninth.
- Vanelli scored the game-tying run in the bottom of the ninth inning.
- Brewer had a season-high two walks while crossing the plate once.
- Murphy walked and scored a run, marking the fourth consecutive game that the graduate student has crossed the plate.
- Kreger drew a walk.
- Schreier struck out a season-high five batters in three innings on the mound.
- Bennage picked up his first victory of the year, striking out a batter in three frames of relief.
- McCracken tied a season-high two strikeouts during three innings of work.

The Flying Dutchmen will be back in action at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 8, when the program will close out its trip to Florida with a matchup against Thiel College in Fort Pierce, Florida.
