Strong Start Powers Women’s Tennis to Victory

HILTON HEAD, S.C. – The Lebanon Valley Women's Tennis team won all three doubles matches and used that momentum to defeat Roanoke College 5-2 on Wednesday afternoon at the Hilton Head Beach and Tennis Resort in Hilton Head, S.C.
 
LVC (3-3) won all three doubles matches including a big comeback victory at number one to take the doubles points. The Dutchmen won the first two singles matches and four of the six matches to earn a second consecutive win to begin the spring season. The singles matches were played in a pro set due to a long delay in the start of the match due to rain.
 
Inside the Results
  • Katie Berra and Jenna Miner were the first doubles match to finish with a 6-4 win at number three.
  • Megan Martin and Catherine Stone won 6-4 at number two to clinch the team point for the Dutchmen.
  • Erika Badner and Sarah McComas rallied from a deficit at number one to win 7-6 (7-3) to finish off the sweep.
  • Stone was the first singles match done at number two by a score of 8-2 for her second consecutive win.
  • Badner won 8-6 at number three to give LVC a 3-0 lead as she improved to 4-3 on the year.
  • McComas and Martin dropped close 8-6 decisions at number one and four singles as the Maroons cut the match to 3-2.
  • Berra clinched the match victory with an 8-2 victory at number five for her third win of the year.
  • Emily Bryant picked up an 8-3 win at number six to improve to 2-2 in the final match of the day.
Up Next
LVC will wrap up the trip to Hilton Head with two matches on Thursday at the Chaplin Park Tennis Center. The Dutchmen will take on John Carroll University at 9:30 a.m. before playing Division II Tiffin University at 3 p.m.
