SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Alyssa Wene scored on a free position goal 1:44 into overtime to give the Lebanon Valley Women's Lacrosse team a thrilling 13-12 victory at Susquehanna University on Tuesday afternoon at Sassafras Field in Selinsgrove.
 
Wene scored LVC's last four goals in the game to power the Dutchmen (3-1) to a win over the River Hawks (1-4) in the team's first road game of the year. Susquehanna got off to a strong start scoring twice in the first three minutes. The Dutchmen took advantage of a woman-up situation as 
Molly Whisler scored off an assist from Kyle Hebert to cut the deficit in half. Wene gave scored a pair of quick goals five seconds apart from each other to tie the game and then give the Dutchmen a 3-2 lead. The River Hawks answered with a goal to tie the game up with nine minutes left in the first quarter. Wene gave the Dutchmen back the lead as she scored her third goal of the game off another assist by Hebert. 
Emily Beard increased the advantage to 5-3 with a goal in the final minute of the quarter.
 
The teams battled up and down the field for the first five minutes of the second quarter until 
Katie DeWitt scored on a free position shot. The River Hawks called a timeout down 6-3 but the Dutchmen kept the pressure on as Wene found 
Bethany Cohee for a goal a few minutes later to put the Dutchmen up by four. Susquehanna stopped the run with agoal before Wene tallied her fourth goal of the game with 3:36 on clock. The River Hawks were able to cut the score to 8-5 at the half with a goal in the final minute.
 
The third quarter was a defensive battle as there were two total goals in the 15 minutes of action. Susquehanna scored first with six minutes left and then Cohee found Beard over the middle with under two minutes left to make it 9-6. There was a total of 13 shots taken in the period with the Dutchmen taking eight.
 
The fourth quarter began with two goals by the River Hawks to cut the lead to 9-8. Wene ran around a defender and scored with just under 10 minutes to play to push the lead to two. Susquehanna responded with a pair of goals to tie things up with 6:49 left. Wene had another unassisted goal with four minutes left to give LVC back the lead. Susquehanna answered with 1:39 left on a free position. The River Hawks won the following draw, but LVC drew a foul to get the ball back. Wene drove the to net and scored with 37 seconds left. The River Hawks were able to score 22 seconds later to send the game into overtime.
 
In the extra session, SU won the draw and got a shot off that was saved by 
Gigi Ditsky. 
Grace Marchese picked up the ground ball and cleared the ball before the Dutchmen called a timeout. LVC put the ball in the stick of Wene who was fouled for a free position attempt. The attacked stepped up and ended the game with a shot into the back of the net on the free position shot.
 
Inside the Box
	- Wene had a season-high eight goals and an assist for nine points. The senior also won eight draw controls. Wene now has 96 career goals and 117 points.
 
	- Beard had two goals on six shots with three caused turnovers and two ground balls. The fifth-year has 10 goals on the season to give her 148 for her career.
 
	- Cohee had a goal and an assist for her third consecutive multi-point game.
 
	- Hebert had two assists and won five draw controls. The junior also had three ground balls.
 
	- DeWitt and Whisler scored a goal each.
 
	- Chloe Moser had another strong defensive game with four ground balls and three caused turnovers.
 
	- Annelise Vetter caused three turnovers.
 
	- Ditsky finished with nine saves in goal.
 
	- The Dutchmen were 19-for-20 on clear attempts and 2-for-3 on free position shots.

LVC will be off for a week before returning to action next Wednesday with a trip up I-81 to face University of Scranton. Opening draw against the Royals is set for 4 p.m. in Scranton.
