SCRANTON, Pa. – Lebanon Valley Women's Lacrosse junior
Molly Whisler recorded her third hat trick of the season with three goals in a 17-7 defeat at the University of Scranton on Wednesday afternoon.
Scranton got off to a great start against the Dutchmen scoring four times in the first eight minutes. A stifling defensive effort for the Royals did not allow the Dutchmen to take a shot until there was 2:42 left in the quarter as Whisler scored her first goal of the game off an assist from
Alyssa Wene.
Chloe Moser won the following draw control and Wene found Whisler again a little over a minute later to cut the lead in half. LVC had a great shot to score again in the final minute but an attempt by
Elizabeth Morgan was saved.
The Dutchmen came out firing to start the second quarter as Wene won the draw and scored to make it a one-goal game. The senior then tied the game up after Moser won another draw. LVC kept the pressure on the Royals and after a pair of saves by
Gigi Ditsky in goal, Whisler gave the Dutchmen the lead with her third goal of the game off an assist by
Bethany Cohee with 9:38 to go in the half. The Royals responded by shutting the Dutchmen down the rest of the half and scored seven times in the final seven minutes to take a 11-5 lead into the break.
Scranton opened up the scoring in the second half with a pair of goals to push the advantage to 13-5 after the first five minutes of play.
Emily Beard scored with 5:41 on the clock off another assist by Cohee. The Royals added three goals in the final five minutes to go up 16-6 heading into the fourth quarter. Moser won the opening draw of the final quarter and
Kyla Hebert scored on a free position shot for her fourth goal of the season. The teams battled up and down the field with neither side able to score until Scranton ended the game with a goal with 22 seconds left to set the final score.
