Women’s Lacrosse Breaks Program Record in 25-3 Win

ANNVILLE, Pa. – The Lebanon Valley Women's Lacrosse team broke the program record for goals in a game as the Dutchmen cruised to a 25-3 victory over visiting Gwynedd Mercy University on Saturday afternoon at Arnold Field.

The Dutchmen (4-2) got off to a fast start scoring goals on the first four possessions of the game before the Griffins (1-7) was able to gain control of the ball for their first offensive possession. Bethany Cohee orchestrated the first three goals finding Hannah Schneider twice and Kyla Hebert once over the middle in the first three minutes. Schneider's goal was the first of her career at LVC. The Griffins called timeout after the third goal but that didn't stall the attack as Alyssa Wene scored her 100th career goal on a free position shot to put LVC up 4-0. The Griffins got on the scoreboard with 6:21 left in the quarter as they took advantage of the first card of the game with a woman-up goal on a free position shot.

LVC responded right away as Hebert won the next draw and Elizabeth Morgan found the back of the net for her seventh goal of the season. The Dutchmen finished the quarter strong scoring five times in the last three minutes. Wene started the run with her second free position goal of the game. Emily Beard scored a little over a minute later off another assist by Cohee. Wene completed her hat trick with an unassisted goal with 51 seconds left before Hebert added a free position goal with 15 seconds left. Wene won the draw and got the ball up the field quickly finding Morgan on a long pass in front of goal. Morgan scored with eight second left to put LVC up 10-1 after the first 15 minutes of action.

The Dutchmen won the draw control to begin the second quarter and Beard scored her second goal of the game a little over a minute in to make it a 10-goal advantage. Morgan found Beard over the middle for another goal before GMU took advantage of another card by the Dutchmen with a second woman-up goal to make it 12-2. Beard scored two more goal on back-to-back possessions with assists by Wene and Morgan in the final five minutes of the half. The Dutchmen closed the half strong starting with a caused turnover and ground ball by Chloe Moser on a clear attempt. Moser who found Wene who then hit Whisler over the middle right before the half ended for a goal to make it 15-2.

Whisler began the second half just like she ended the first, with an unassisted goal on the first possession. The Dutchmen increased the lead to 17-2 a couple minutes later as Morgan found the back of the net for third time in the game to complete her hat trick. The Griffins were able to score their third goal of the game on a free position shot with around 10 minutes on the clock. LVC responded with a goal by Emily Menet, the first of her career, off an assist by Whisler. Beard then assisted Cohee on a goal before Menet scored again off another assist from Whisler to push the lead to 20-3 after the third quarter.

Wene scored her fourth goal of the game in the opening minute of the final quarter. Cohee tallied her second goal off an assist by beard a couple minutes later to make it 22-3. All three of the Dutchmen's final three goals were scored by Beard on assists from Cohee, including a woman-down goal midway through the quarter.
