GRANTHAM, Pa. – Lebanon Valley Women's Lacrosse goalie
Gigi Ditsky made a season-high 13 saves in a tough 13-1 defeat at 25th-ranked Messiah University on Wednesday afternoon in Grantham.
The Falcons (5-3) won the opening draw and hit the post in the first minute of the game. Ditsky made a save on a free position shot to keep the game scoreless in the first couple of minutes. Messiah was able to score the game's first goal following a Dutchmen turnover on a clear attempt.
Emily Beard and
Elizabeth Morgan had shots that were saved as LVC tried to even the score. The Falcons doubled their lead on a free position goal with just over five minutes to go in the quarter. They scored again 90 seconds later to push the advantage to 3-0. Morgan had another shot saved in the final two minutes as the Falcons held onto the 3-0 lead after one.
Messiah outshot the Dutchmen 10-0 in the second quarter and scored four times to increase the lead to 7-0. Ditsky made four saves in the period to add to her five that she recorded in the first quarter. The Falcons had one free position goal in the period and two unassisted goals including one right before the half ended. The stifling defensive effort for the Falcons continued into the third quarter as they scored four more goals and held LVC to just one shot during the quarter. Ditsky added three more saves to her total including one on a free position shot.
Alyssa Wene won the first draw control of the final quarter, and the Dutchmen offense started to get some momentum against the Falcons as
Kyla Hebert had a shot saved on a free position attempt. Hebert and Wene both hit the post on back-to-back shots.
Molly Whisler had a free position shot saved. The Falcons scored a pair of goals to increase their lead to 13-0 with four minutes left. LVC scored on the final play of the game as
Bethany Cohee found
Emily Beard open over the middle for a goal.
Inside the Box
- Beard scored her 20th goal of the season and 157th of her career. The attacker took two shots, had one caused turnover, and one ground ball.
- Cohee recorded her team-leading 24th assist of the year and her 89th career point.
- Ditsky made a season-high 13 saves and picked up three ground balls
- Grace Marchese had a team-high three ground balls and two caused turnovers. Annelise Vetter and Chloe Moser also had two caused turnovers and a ground ball each.
- Wene won five draw controls to give her 60 on the season and 151 in her career.
- The Dutchmen held the Falcons to just two goals on nine free position attempts.
