COLMAR, Pa. – Anna Dale scored a goal for the third-seeded Lebanon Valley College Women's Ice Hockey team, as the program battled valiantly while dropping a 3-1 decision to second-seeded Arcadia University in the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Semifinal on Saturday, March 1, at Hatfield Ice Arena.
The Dutchmen (17-8-1) were productive on the defensive end early in the game, holding the Knights (20-3-3) to just three shots on goal over the first 5:16. Goaltender
Mia Frisoni posted saves for LVC on each of these attempts, including a stop while the opposition was short-handed.
Norah McCauliffe also contributed to the program's defensive efforts, blocking a shot at the 7:14 mark. Frisoni followed this with seven saves over the next 2:02, including six during the ninth minute.
Lebanon Valley opened the scoring 10:15 into the first, taking a 1-0 lead over Arcadia. The team got on the board with a power-play goal by Dale, courtesy of an assist by
Sky Campanile. The Knights countered with nine shots on goal over the next 7:40, and Frisoni made saves for the Flying Dutchmen on each try. The goalie logged two of these stops at the 16:58 and 17:07 marks, while the program was on a penalty kill. LVC's offense also continued to send the puck toward the net as the end of the period approached, as
Leela Nemani put a shot on goal that was saved at the 18:25 mark and
Tiffany Anderson had an attempt saved with 29 seconds left during a power play.
The Dutchmen generated some more offensive opportunities when the second period began, as
Erin Yorke took a shot that was saved 28 seconds into the frame during the power play. Anderson followed this with an attempt that was saved at the 2:59 mark. Arcadia then got on the scoreboard 4:05 into the second, tying the game at 1-1 on a goal by Izzy Gershtein. Lebanon Valley also kept working to limit the opposition as the period went on, as Frisoni tallied five more saves over the next 4:28, including four stops during a penalty kill. The Knights scored again 8:46 into the second, taking a 2-1 advantage on a power-play goal by Phoebe Roberts.
The Flying Dutchmen continued to battle defensively as the second period progressed, as
Laura Radford blocked a shot attempt at the 10:51 mark before Frisoni had a pair of saves within 31 seconds in the 12
thminute. The goaltender also recorded two stops within 14 seconds in the 14
th minute. Lebanon Valley then went on a power play 14:08 into the frame, and Dale created a scoring chance with a shot on goal at the 14:54 mark. The program proceeded to put three more shots on goal during the remaining minutes of the period, including an attempt by
Maeghan Howson with just five seconds to go, during a power play.
The Dutchmen sent more shots toward the net when the third period got underway, as
Jess Dawe tallied a shot that hit the post and Campanile had an attempt on goal within 25 seconds in the opening minute, while the squad was on a power play. Back on the defensive end, Frisoni logged six saves for LVC over the next 8:38. Lebanon Valley responded with a scoring chance, as Dale put a shot on goal at the 9:40 mark.
The programs proceeded to go back and forth for over four minutes, as neither team put a shot on goal during this stretch. Arcadia tacked on another point 14:06 into the third, going ahead 3-1 on a goal by Ariel Williamson. Lebanon Valley then went on a power play that started in the 14:35 mark, and Anderson took a shot on goal that was saved 13 seconds later. Anderson kept battling as the period went on, recording another shot that was saved at the 16:35 mark. The Dutchmen delivered a strong effort until the final minute, but the score was maintained through the end of the game.
