BALTIMORE, Md. – Ethan Keenan scored three of the first five goals of the game to lead the Lebanon Valley Men's Lacrosse team to a 10-8 victory at Goucher College on Saturday afternoon in Baltimore, Maryland.
Jake Bollinger scored twice to become the program's top goal scorer with 152 career goals.
The teams traded possessions over the first few minutes of the game with neither team able to score. Keenan put the Dutchmen (2-2) on the board with an unassisted goal. LVC had a successful kill of an extra-man opportunity and then
Trey Ralston scored with eight minutes to go in the first to increase the lead. The scored remained 2-0 until Bollinger found Keenan for his second goal of the game with 2:46 to go. Goucher scored its first goal with a little over a minute left to cut the advantage to 3-1 after one.
The offense came out firing in the second taking five consecutive shots over a minute span. Keenan picked up a ground ball off the fifth shot which was saved and put the ball into the back of the cage to complete his hat trick and give LVC a 4-1 lead. The Dutchmen kept the pressure on throughout the quarter but were unable to score until the last play of the half when Bollinger scored his record-breaking goal. Keenan hit the crossbar right before Bollinger scored to put the Dutchmen up 5-1 at the half.
Liam Hogan increased LVC's lead to 6-1 a couple minutes into the second half off an assist by
Nick Gleason. Goucher scored 45 seconds later but LVC responded right back as Ralston found the back of the net for the second time.
Hayden Carling increased the lead to 8-2 with an unassisted goal. The Gophers responded with two quick goals and then added a third goal with just over a minute to go in the quarter to cut the deficit to 8-5.
LVC's defense kept the Gophers off the scoreboard for the first eight minutes of the fourth until Goucher scored to make it a two-goal game. Keenan gave the Dutchmen some breathing room with his fourth goal of the game and then Bollinger added an insurance goal with 3:39 left. The Gophers called a timeout and were able to score twice in the final two minutes, but LVC won a faceoff with 1:20 remaining and held onto the ball the rest of the way.
