ANNVILLE, Pa. – Evin Timochenko recorded his sixth double-double of the season to lead the Lebanon Valley Men's Basketball team in a tough 58-54 defeat to visiting Delaware Valley University on Saturday afternoon inside Sorrentino Gymnasium in Annville.
LVC (10-10, 4-5 MAC Freedom) had early struggles against the Aggies (10-11, 5-5 MAC Freedom) as DVU scored the first seven points of the game.
Ryan Harder put the Dutchmen on the board with a driving layup nearly four minutes in. After getting a stop on defense
Michael Main pushed the ball up court and found
Jason Penn in transition for a three-pointer to make it a two-point game. The Aggies drew a foul and made both shots at the line before a pair of layups by Timochenko tied the game up at nine. The defense forced a shot clock violation and then Penn scored on a driving layup to put LVC up by two. The lead was short-lived as the Aggies responded with a three at the other end of the court. The Aggies led by three when
Phil Unangst scored down low and then Main hit a three to put LVC on top 19-17 midway through the half.
Delaware Valley hit a pair of free throws and then knocked down a three to take back the lead over the next minute of play. After three scoreless minutes, the Aggies increased the advantage to five with a transition bucket. The Dutchmen came right back as Tang found Timochenko open at the top of the key for a step back three and then inside the paint for a turnaround jumper to tie the score at 24. The Aggies countered with a 10-0 run to end the half over the final four minutes.
The Dutchmen came out of the locker room strong as Harder knocked down a jumper and then Penn hit a three in transition to cut the lead in half a little over two minutes in the period. DVU called a timeout and scored out of the break to pause the run. Timochenko grabbed an offensive board at the other end and found Tang open for a three to get LVC within four at 36-32. The Aggies answered with the next three points before Harder knocked down a mid-range jumper. The lead was still five when Harder pulled up for a jumper with 11 minutes left to make it 41-38. DVU responded with an 8-0 run over the next two minutes to go up by 11.
LVC slowly began chipping away at the lead starting with a three-pointer from Tang.
Braden Bohannon hit four consecutive free throws on two possessions to get the Dutchmen within five at 55-50 with seven minutes to go. After a DVU bucket, Harder was fouled while shooting a three and knocked down all his shots at the line to make it a four-point game.
