Women’s Lacrosse Doubles Up Marywood

ANNVILLE, Pa. – The Lebanon Valley Women's Lacrosse team used an all-around team effort to defeat Marywood University 20-10 on a wet Wednesday evening at Arnold Field in Annville.
 
The Dutchmen (2-1) jumped out to a big lead behind a strong first quarter of action. Katie DeWitt scored on a free position shot a little over two minutes into the game. Marywood (1-3) answered with a goal a minute later to tie the score up. The score remained tied until Kyla Hebert put one into the back of the net off an assist by Bethany Cohee a little over five minutes in. Molly Whisler gave the Dutchmen some breathing room with her first goal of the game almost two minutes later. The Pacers took advantage of a green card with a woman-up goal to cut the lead to 3-2. LVC rattled off four goals in a two-minute stretch to increase the advantage to five. DeWitt found Whisler for the first goal before Cohee added another assist on a goal by Elizabeth Morgan. DeWitt and Morgan added free position goals to give LVC a 7-2 lead after one.
The lead increased to six early in the second quarter as Cohee scored on a free position shot on a new Pacer goalie. Marywood was able to hold the Dutchmen off the scoreboard while scoring three goals over a five-minute span to cut the deficit to 8-6 forcing LVC the call a timeout. The Dutchmen took advantage of a yellow card as Morgan scored her third goal of the game off an assist by Hannah Schneider to make it 9-6 with four minutes to go in the half. The Pacers responded with a goal two minutes later to get back within two goals at the half.
 
Whisler completed her hat trick in the first minute of the third quarter with a woman-up goal. The Pacers countered with a goal a minute later. LVC answered with back-to-back goals from Emily Beard and Whisler to go up by four. Beard scored on a free position shot. Hebert won the draw control and 30 seconds later Cohee found Whisler open for her fourth goal of the game. Alyssa Wene extended the advantage to 13-8 with a woman-up free position goal with 9:42 on the clock. Four minutes later Hebert scored her second goal of the game off another assist by Cohee. The Pacers stopped the run with a free position goal with 3:30 left. Neither team scored the rest of the period as the Dutchmen held a 14-9 lead.
 
Wene scored on another free position shot to begin play in the fourth quarter after she won the draw control. The Pacers scored a woman-up goal to make it 15-10 with 13:17 remaining in the game. That was the last goal LVC would allow as they finished the game on a 5-0 run. Whisler scored on a free position shot before DeWitt scored a pair of goals off assists from Wene and Cohee. Wene scored her third free position goal of the game before assisting Hebert to finish up her hat trick.
 
Inside the Box
  • Seven different Dutchmen scored with five recording hat tricks.
  • Whisler scored a career-high five goals on 11 shots. The junior is off to a great start to the season with 11 points in three games after totaling 43 points over her first two seasons.
  • DeWitt recorded her first career hat trick with four goals and one assist for five points. She took six shots putting four on goal including going 2-2 on free positions shots.
  • Wene recorded her third consecutive hat trick to begin the year with three goals and two assists for five points. All three goals came on free position shots. The attacker won a season-high 15 draw controls, caused three turnovers and picked up two ground balls.
  • Hebert scored her first career hat trick with three goals on four shots. She also won four draw controls.
  • Morgan rounded out the hat trick party with her second consecutive three-goal game. The sophomore scored on all three shots she took.
  • Cohee had another great game with a team-high six points on one goal and five assists. The junior is up to 13 assists on the season including 12 in the last two games.
  • Beard scored a goal while Schneider recorded her first career point with an assist.
  • Gigi Ditsky made seven saves in goal to record her second consecutive victory.
  • Chloe Moser led the defense with four caused turnovers with five ground balls and four draw controls.
  • The Dutchmen won 23 of 34 draw controls and held a 37-26 shot advantage. LVC was great on clear attempts going 15-for-17 including a perfect 8-for-8 in the second half.
  • Nine of LVC's 20 goals were on free position shots and the Dutchmen were 9-for-13 for the game.
Up Next
The Dutchmen will be on the road for the first time this year next Tuesday as the team heads north to Selinsgrove for a 4 p.m. battle with Susquehanna University.
