Women’s Basketball Uses Big Second Half to Defeat Marywood

ANNVILLE, Pa. – The Lebanon Valley women's basketball team outscored visiting Marywood University 41-17 in the second half to pull away for a 68-42 victory over the Pacers on Tuesday afternoon at Sorrentino Gymnasium in Annville.
 
The Dutchmen (9-2) used a big third quarter to open a big lead against the Pacers (5-5) after leading by just two at halftime. The first half was a back-and-forth affair with 11 lead changes and five ties. Marywood got on the board first with a jumper just outside the paint. Brielle Reidinger found Riley Hevelow open in the corner for a three-pointer at the other end of the floor to give the Dutchmen their first lead. Neither team was able to score over the next two minutes until the Pacers scored on a jumper in the paint.
 
Hevelow gave the Dutchmen the lead back as she got out in transition and pulled up on the right wing for a jumper near the midway mark of the opening quarter. The Pacers responded with a pair of layups to take a three-point lead. Megan Albrecht knocked down the back end of two free throws, and then Hevelow hit a step-back jumper to even the score. Marywood knocked down two free throws before Hevelow pulled up along the baseline with a minute left to tie the score at 10. Neither team was able to score over the final minute as a last-second jumper by Abbie Reed rimmed out.
 
Reidinger began the second quarter with a driving layup. Marywood responded with a three-pointer before Kailey Eckhart was fouled going to the hoop. The senior hit both her foul shots to put the Dutchmen up one. The Pacers knocked down a step-back jumper, and then Hevelow nailed a three-pointer on the right wing off an assist from Eckhart. The Pacers answered at the other end with a three-pointer. Reidinger tied the game with a made free throw before Marywood hit another three-pointer to take a 21-18 advantage with 5:50 to go in the half. Eckhart found Hevelow open in the paint for a bucket, and then the Pacers knocked down a pair of foul shots.
 
Eckhart gave the Dutchmen the lead back as she scored on a driving layup and then knocked down a pair of shots at the line. Reed hit one of two free throws, and Eckhart scored on another layup off an assist from Reed to give LVC a four-point lead. The Pacers held the Dutchmen scoreless over the final 2:50 of the quarter while just hitting two free throws to cut the deficit to 27-25 at the half. The Pacers had an opportunity to take the lead right before the buzzer, but Albrecht blocked a three-point attempt, and Reed grabbed the rebound.
 
LVC locked down defensively over the first four minutes of the third quarter as Marywood scored two points on a pair of free throws. Offensively, the Dutchmen started to get hot as Alexa Holcomb hit a baseline jumper, Reed knocked down a three-pointer in transition, and Reidinger scored on a turnaround jumper in the paint. The Pacers knocked down their first of just three made field goals in the quarter with a turnaround jumper in the paint with 5:45 to go in the quarter. The Dutchmen responded with a corner three from Hevelow and a pull-up jumper at the free throw line in transition by Reed. Marywood hit a three-pointer to head into the media timeout with a 39-32 deficit.
 
Adrianna Stricek grabbed an offensive rebound and made the putback layup out of the timeout. The Pacers scored on a layup before Reidinger made two foul shots. Hevelow put back a shot that was blocked, and then Stricek swished a baseline jumper to put the Dutchmen up by 13 with 2:20 left. LVC got out in transition over the final two minutes of the quarter as Reed and Eckhart scored fastbreak layups to give LVC a 51-17 advantage going into the final quarter.
 
The Dutchmen scored the first four points of the fourth as Eckhart knocked down a pair of shots at the line and then. Albrecht scored on an open layup off a pass from Reidinger. Marywood scored its first points of the quarter on a layup before a 9-0 run for the Dutchmen. Reidinger started the run with a driving layup and then added another layup off a pass from Albrecht. Hevelow hit a three-pointer on the right side, and then Stricek scored underneath off a feed from Reidinger. The Pacers stopped the run with a bucket down low. Hevelow hit a jumper on the right wing to push the lead to 28 points with 5:35 to go. Neither team scored again until Ava Peel hit a pair of shots at the line with 2:49 left to give LVC its biggest lead of the game at 68-38. The Pacers scored twice over the final three minutes to set the final score.
 
Inside the Box
  • LVC ran its winning streak to eight games heading into conference play.
  • Hevelow finished with game-highs of 24 points and 13 rebounds for her first double-double of the season. She shot 10-for15 from the field and was 4-for-6 from deep. The senior added four assists, two steals, and a blocked shot.
  • Eckhart was two rebounds shy of a double-double with 12 points and eight rebounds. The senior added three assists and a block to her stat line.
  • Reidinger finished with 11 points, three rebounds, and three assists. The forward was 4-for-7 from the field and 3-for-4 at the line.
  • Reed scored eight points and pulled down six rebounds. The junior also had two steals and a block. She has blocked at least one shot in three of the past four games.
  • Stricek scored a season-high six points and pulled down four rebounds. Albrecht finished with five rebounds, three points, and three assists.
  • LVC shot an outstanding 46.3 percent from the field, including 52.6 percent in the third quarter. They outscored Marywood 24-9 in the decisive quarter.
  • The Dutchmen held a 53-27 rebounding advantage. They scored 26 points in the paint and had 15 points off 12 Marywood turnovers.

The Dutchmen will be off for a little over a week and will begin conference play on Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2026, when the squad makes the first of two trips up I-81 to face King's College in Wilkes-Barre. Tip-off against the Monarchs is scheduled for 5 p.m. in McGrane Gymnasium.
