Pitcher
Jordy Polanco '27 followed up his strong 2025 season for the Lebanon Valley College baseball team by working alongside industry leaders in his field, during an internship with Conrad Siegel.
Polanco, an Actuarial Science major, used the summer before his junior year to broaden his knowledge of the subject through this internship. Conrad Siegel is an employee benefit and investment advisory firm headquartered in Central Pennsylvania.
"Gaining relevant experience in the actuarial science field was great," Polanco said. "I saw what life as an actuary meant. I learned a lot from my co-workers, who had a lot of valuable advice to share."
As an Actuarial Intern, Polanco worked on the Other Post-Employment Benefits (OPEB) team.
"I learned a lot more about what actuaries do as an analyst," Polanco said. "For example, I learned what a Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) 75 valuation is and what it takes to have a valuation completed as accurately as possible."
Polanco looks forward to a career as an actuary and aims to become a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (FSA) or a Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society (FCAS). He said he believes that the lessons learned from his internship will help him achieve these objectives. Polanco also expressed that many of the skills he acquired through his LVC education, such as proficiency in Microsoft Excel, are applicable in the daily life of an actuary.
"The communication skills I learned at LVC prepared me for this internship," Polanco said. "I was able to transfer the practice of carefully explaining complex ideas to the workforce."
During Polanco's time at Lebanon Valley, the junior's responsibilities as a student-athlete have also taught him time management skills. These are abilities he can use during his remaining two seasons of baseball, and in his future career.
Polanco appeared in 10 games as a reliever for the Dutchmen in 2025, striking out four batters during 10 innings on the mound. The right-hander also held opponents to a .200 batting average during the season. Polanco's contributions helped LVC reach the postseason, advancing to the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom Semifinal series against Stevens Institute of Technology. He pitched in game two of this series and delivered two scoreless innings with a strikeout.
Polanco excitedly awaits the 2026 campaign with his sights set on helping Lebanon Valley win a MAC Freedom title.
"My goals for this upcoming baseball season are to be a key piece of the pitching rotation and help the team make it further into the playoffs," Polanco said.
