HOBOKEN, N.J. – Abrielle Miller netted a goal for the third-seeded Lebanon Valley College women's soccer team, as the program battled valiantly while dropping a 2-1 contest to second-seeded Stevens Institute of Technology in the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom Semifinal on Tuesday, Nov. 4, at the DeBaun Athletic Complex.
The Ducks (10-3-6) took the first shot of the game and sent the ball to the left of the net at the 3:11 mark. The Dutchmen (13-4-2) countered with an offensive opportunity, as Miller put a shot on goal that was saved 35 seconds later. Stevens then opened the scoring 6:20 into the first half, taking a 1-0 lead on a goal by Sarah Wnorowski. The Ducks also attempted a shot at the 7:20 mark, and Lebanon Valley's defense came through with a block. Stevens later logged a shot at the 11:21 mark on a free kick, which went off the crossbar. This was followed by another shot for the Ducks, which went above at the 16:54 mark.
The Flying Dutchmen kept working to create scoring chances as the first stanza progressed, as
Mikhaela Sartor put a shot on target that was saved at the 19:25 mark. The programs proceeded to go back and forth defensively for over four minutes before LVC's defense blocked a shot attempt by Stevens at the 24:04 mark. The Ducks also tallied a pair of shots within 28 seconds in the 27th minute, which went over the upper-left corner of the net and to the right of the goal.
Lebanon Valley found the net 29:01 into the first half, tying the game at 1-1. The program generated some opportunities when
Jordan Lasky sent a shot off the crossbar at the 28:56 mark, before
Alison Sepkovic had an attempt blocked three seconds later. This blocked shot was deflected to the back of the penalty box, leading to Miller taking a shot and sending the ball into the lower-left corner of the net for a clutch goal. Stevens responded with a shot 31:33 into the contest, which went over the upper-right corner of the net. The squads then battled defensively for nearly nine minutes, until LVC blocked a shot by the Ducks at the 40:11 mark. Ultimately, the teams entered halftime in a 1-1 tie.
The Dutchmen recorded the first shot of the second half, as Miller put an attempt on goal that was saved 1:10 into the stanza. Stevens countered with shots on target at the 47:09 and 50:36 marks, and goalkeeper
Camryn Porter delivered important saves for Lebanon Valley on both tries. The Flying Dutchmen remained productive on the defense end as the half went on, blocking a pair of shots by the Ducks within 39 seconds in the 52nd minute. Stevens followed this with an attempt at the 52:11 mark, which resulted in Porter making a save for LVC. The Ducks also sent the ball above the upper-left corner of the net 54:00 into the game, before taking a shot on a free kick and sending it off the crossbar at the 57:16 mark.
Stevens took another shot that went to the right of the net at the 61:06 mark and sent a try above the goal at the 64:17 mark. The programs then competed on the defensive end for nearly 10 minutes, until Porter posted another key stop for the Dutchmen at the 73:59 mark. The Ducks followed this with a shot that went to the right of the net at the 74:49 mark, and an attempt that went above the net 79:40 into the contest. Porter also kept battling for Lebanon Valley as the second half progressed, registering a save at the 80:26 mark.
Stevens later sent a shot to the left of the net at the 84:27 mark and had a try that went above the goal at the 86:17 mark. LVC's defense also blocked a shot attempt by the Ducks at the 87:09 mark. Stevens then scored on a goal by Lauren Alley with 15 seconds remaining, prompting 2-1 to be the final score.
