Volleyball Sweeps Home Tri-Match

ANNVILLE, Pa. – The Lebanon Valley volleyball team won its fifth consecutive contest with a pair of wins on home court, with a 3-2 victory over York College of Pennsylvania and a 3-0 victory over Neumann University on Saturday at Sorrentino Gymnasium in Annville.
 
The Dutchmen (10-11) rallied from a 2-1 deficit to defeat York in five sets in the first match of the day. They finished the day strong with a sweep of Neumann in the nightcap.
 
Match vs. York (25-16, 26-28, 24-26, 25-20, 15-12)
LVC scored the first two points of the match and six of the first 10 to take an early lead. Riley Mack had a pair of kills during the run. Libby Lindau and Mattea Penner gave the Dutchmen a 9-4 advantage before the Spartans used a 6-2 rally to cut the deficit to one. York continued to cut into the lead and tied the set at 14. The Dutchmen responded in a big way with the next six points. Jillian Jefferys had a pair of points, and Teaguen Reynolds served up an ace. Jefferys had Mack had back-to-back points to push the lead to 22-15. Lyla Arfanella got the Dutchmen to set point with a big service ace before an attack error finished off the set.
 
York scored the first point of the second set. Penner had back-to-back points, and then Mack gave the Dutchmen a 4-1 advantage. The Spartans countered with a 15-4 run. The Dutchmen called a timeout and immediately went to work on the deficit, starting with a pair of Penner points. The Dutchmen scored five of the next seven points to cut the lead to three after a kill by Jefferys. York scored four of the next six points to get to 22-17. Lindau had three kills, Arfanella recorded another ace, and Margaret Cole had a block to cut the advantage down to 23-22. The Dutchmen were able to overtake the Spartans in the set as Jefferys put LVC up 25-24 with a kill. York answered with four of the next five points to even the match up.
 
Sofia Okronley began the third set with a service ace. The Spartans scored the next four points before LVC answered with a 6-0 run. Penner had two aces during the run, and the Dutchmen blocked two attacks. Jefferys increased the lead to 9-5 with back-to-back points. The Spartans started to slowly chip into the advantage and cut it to one at 12-11. Three consecutive errors and then a Penner kill pushed the Dutchmen advantage to four. York countered with the next four points before the teams traded three-point rallies. The Dutchmen led 22-18 when York used a 6-0 run to get to set point. Jefferys and Lindau tied the set up with a pair of kills, but York answered with two straight points to take the 2-1 lead.
 
The Spartans came out strong to start the fourth set, scoring four of the first five points. Reynolds started a 10-1 run for the Dutchmen to take an 11-5 advantage. The Dutchmen had four aces during the rally, including three by Jasmine Sullivan. York countered the Dutchmen with a run of their own to even the set at 12. The teams battled back and forth, trading points until LVC used a 4-2 rally to take a 20-18 lead. The Spartans were able to tie the set up before LVC closed strong with the next five points. Lindau and Penner had three of the five points to send the match to a fifth set.
 
York scored the first two points of the final set. The Dutchmen answered with six of the next seven points as Reynolds had two points to make it 6-3. The Dutchmen got to eight on a Jefferys kill and then an attack error by the Spartans. They kept the pressure on, and Jefferys made it 10-6 with her third point of the set. York was able to cut it to 10-9 before the teams traded points until LVC was at match point off a Lindau kill. Reynolds ended the match with a big block.

  • LVC has won the last three meetings with the Spartans inside Sorrentino Gymnasium since 2022.
  • Penner had 15 kills and four aces to lead the Dutchmen with 19.0 points. She also had 15 digs.
  • Jefferys had 17.0 points on 14 kills and four total blocks.
  • Lindau and Mack recorded 13 kills each to give the Dutchmen four players with double-digit kills.
  • Reynolds posted seven kills, three aces, and four blocks.
  • Okronley had 36 assists while Sullivan added 20. Kylie Nagle added 14 digs.

Match vs. Neumann (25-17, 25-15, 25-16)
The Dutchmen got off to a slow start against the Knights after a break, while Neumann played York in a five-set affair. LVC turned a 4-1 deficit into a two-point advantage following five straight points that ended with a Sullivan ace after a Cole kill on an overpass. Neumann kept things close and was briefly able to get the lead back at 8-7. The Dutchmen responded with a 6-1 run that included a pair of Sofia Rios aces. The Knights cut the lead back down to three before Lindau and Penner spearheaded a four-point stretch that made it 22-15. The teams traded points before Lindau and Jefferys had back-to-back points to end the set.
 
Mack started the second set with a kill. Jefferys and Reynolds had a block, and then Reynolds put away a pass from Rios to make it 3-0. The Knights scored three of the next four points. The lead was still at one when Lindau and Cole started a 7-1 run with a block. Penner had three kills during the rally as the Dutchmen grew the lead. The advantage expanded to 20-10 following another 7-1 run by the Dutchmen as LVC was getting contributions from all over the court. LVC was able to close out the set with five of the next eight points, ending on a Cole kill from Sullivan.
 
The Dutchmen wasted no time building a big lead in the third set with seven of the first eight points. Sullivan had a pair of aces while Reynolds added two points on a kill and an ace. Neumann fought back and was able to get the deficit down to two points. Lindau put away a ball from Sullivan and then blocked an attack. Jefferys and Reynolds split LVC's next six points to build the advantage up to 16-9. Neumann countered with a 5-2 rally. Penner got the Dutchmen to the finish line with three kills on the final six points, including the final point of the match.
 
Inside the Box
  • Jefferys added another 14 kills to give her 28 on the day. The sophomore has recorded a season-high 14 kills in each of the past three matches.
  • Penner had 10 kills and 16 digs for her 10th double-double of the season.
  • Lindau finished with seven kills and three total blocks.
  • Reynolds recorded five kills, two aces, and two blocks.
  • Sullivan led the team with five aces and 18 assists.
  • Rios had 17 assists and four aces.
  • Nagle added 11 digs.
Up Next
Lebanon Valley will host DeSales University on Wednesday evening, Oct. 22, in a big conference match at Sorrentino Gymnasium. The Dutchmen and Bulldogs are tied for second in the standings at 3-1 with three matches left. The match is scheduled to start at 7 p.m. in Annville.
